Meet Fadia Monserrath

We recently connected with Fadia Monserrath and have shared our conversation below.

Fadia, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

The opposite of being alive is being dead. And I don’t believe death is the end but the start of something new. Something beautiful about creativity is that: it is everything. It coexists all around, it’s us, the world, this universe. So creativity remains alive as long as we are breathing, it’s within us. I create every single day of my life with the decisions I make and the actions I take. Then, when I am truly connected to myself, art flows, and stories are told.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

This is an invitation to enter my imaginative world, where bizarre and spiritual art reigns supreme. I draw inspiration from my life experiences and then I portray them in my films. I call this healing through making art. I invite you to explore the depths of the human soul, embrace the unconventional, embrace the mystical, and embrace the opportunity to experience magic through cinema.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Number one, be delusional. Dream, whatever moves you, any idea that knocks on your door, no matter how crazy or unreasonable it seems, it’s ready to be manifested through you!

Number two, listen to yourself. It is quite impossible to not care about what the world has to say, people will always have their opinions and that’s part of the human experience. But when it comes to your own journey, use your intuition. Be the one and only writer of your script. You get to make a movie about YOU! So make sure to direct it through a transparent and truthful lens. It’s very helpful to me to bring myself back into the present and become aware of all my senses whenever I feel like I can’t hear myself.

Number three, TRUST. Whenever I feel an ounce of frustration in my emotions, I immediately bring myself to this helpful skill. Trusting. I am a huge believer that the universe coordinates and resonates according to the right vibrational frequencies. If things aren’t going the way you planned, know that it was never in your total control anyway. Trusting takes practice and involves faith. You just gotta try your best and the rest comes along.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Ok, I can’t round this question to only one. So I need to enlist at least three tops! ’cause I am a huge bookworm within the self-help realm. I think the books of Joe Dispenza have been life-changing for me. He is a neuroscientist who helps people to heal from within and has amazing meditations. Another book that I love is The Creative Act by Rick Rubin, I highly recommend it to any art creators out there. I certainly had “aha moments” while reading this book and tbh I think Rick is just a true genius. And all of Eckhart Tolle’s books! He’s a spiritual teacher who speaks the T.
