Meet Chelsea Bytes

We were lucky to catch up with Chelsea Bytes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

I know my limits, so my self-care is very sporadic. This doesn’t mean that I’ll blow off responsibilities to do so, but that most of my goals are built around generating more time for it! As for what I do, I’d say it’s a combination of eating great (not just good) food, playing a game that I don’t normally play on stream, watching a good anime or period-piece, and pampering myself a bit (a good massage and mani-pedi never hurt anyone). There is a palpable change to my demeanor when I’ve set aside time for regular self-care. This also reflects in my creativity, influencer analytics, community feedback, and even monthly revenue!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As “ChelseaBytes”, I’m a Twitch Partner, On-camera Host, and Computer Scientist who aims to show the world that geeks don’t look or act the way most people imagine. If I’m not streaming on my own channel or hosting for G2 Esports, Twitch, and Amazon, I’m busy serving as a global Lead for the Twitch Unity Women’s Guild. My passion for Technology, Video Games, Anime, and Tabletop Roleplaying blend together with my talent as an On-camera Host to make ChelseaBytes what it is today. Before my Twitch journey, I was largely in the tech field! A lot of the work that I did was consulting-style/contract programming, but I’m also a published researcher in the area. Before that, I spent a good amount of time teaching kids 1st – 5th grade! Recently, one of my biggest projects included a “budget-to-best” piece with IGN, where I wrote and recorded all of the content included. I learned a TON and use these skills in my weekly content creation. Definitely check it out if you’re curious about some of the latest cases!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

For my journey specifically, I’d say the most important qualities/skills were being able to connect with a wide range of people. This has been insanely useful in every field that I’ve worked in. In Computer Science, it meant I could communicate with both researchers and marketing. Or even between engineers and sales. As an Influencer, this has not only made it easier to connect with my community, but it also made wonderfully fluid for hosting on live shows and working with a wide range of brands. In order to hone this skill, I’d tell people to talk to EVERYONE they can find! I also think my time as a teacher helped a LOT, since explaining something to a child means you can do that with anyone! The second skill would be knowing how to think critically. Being able to identify and analyze all the information available to you allows for easy planning and direction mapping. This was absolutely essential when it came to building “ChelseaBytes” into a business. The best way to nurture this skill would be to read up on and follow the Scientific Method! Finally, I’d say EVERYONE should learn AT LEAST one programming language. It can be so useful even just for every-day activities. I’d suggest JavaScript 🙂

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

OF COURSE! I’m so excited to help people see their best pc builds come to life! Whether it’s consulting or a full build, I’m happy to oblige. I also appreciate anyone who is up for a good conversation. And that discussion doesn’t have to be on something like gaming, anime, etc. Whatever your interests, I’d love to learn about them!
