Meet Bobby Hayden

We recently connected with Bobby Hayden and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobby, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I was introduced to music at a very young age. I was doing National TV shows by age 10. I was blessed with gifts such as a singing voice and stage presence and was unaware that these gifts were God given. As I got older I continued to chase my dreams to stardom. I thought that fame & money was how I would finally gain happiness. It was in the 1980’s after I got on MTV that my life started to unravel. The more accolades I received, the more I tried to fill a void that never seemed to go away. I started using drugs as a way to ease the pain. By the late 1990’s I was a homeless heroin addict living in a cardboard box in LA’s skid row for nearly 8 years. Because of my despair and the darkness in my life I started to search out the Light which in my case was God. I asked God for hope one day while eating garbage in a dumpster. The very next day a man by the name of Mr Esperanza put me on a bus to a rehab. I was told at the rehab that Esperanza actually meant hope in Spanish. That was the beginning of a journey of Faith that led me directly to my purpose. My purpose was to instill hope and share my story of transformation. I have been clean 16 years. I have traveled the world telling my story with words and music. My talents I have learned came from God. I am now walking in my purpose I was designed to walk in. There is no greater feeling I could ever have than watching a human being walk from the darkness into the Light. I am very grateful to find out that broke people help fix broke people.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a singer/songwriter living in Music City (Nashville TN). This is where some of the greatest musicians in the world are located. I write songs about real life . My message is one of hope and the musicians that relate to this message are drawn to it. I am produced by Mark Fain. Fain worked for the legendary Ricky Skaggs for nearly 20 years and also was a main stay on the Opry . Fain has assembled world class studio musicians to assist on our projects. Band members from Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks & many more are apart of our recording process. I also work about 125 shows a year around the country sharing my story of hope and performing the songs we record at recovery meetings, church events, TV programs & rescue missions. Our Ministry is called Cardboard Box Ministries located in Nashville TN. We can be reached at bobbyhayden55@yahoo.com and all social media sites. Contact 931 374 5124

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Faith in God. Faith that we can overcome. Have a child like curiosity to inquire about our creator. The Bible is a great place to start. I simply wanted to know more about God .

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The Bible . Proverbs will give you a new perspective. The 4 Gospels taught me about the man Jesus. They say the Bible is a living Word. I believe it is . When I didn’t understand things ,it seemed to explain itself over time. As I read more, my thinking changed. I began to sense I was loved by my creator. Bad habits started to fade. Old friends were replaced by new friends that sincerely cared for me. I actually found myself going to church. I really believe that the first time I opened the book my IQ went up about 100 points. Go figure ?
