Meet Danicìa “KO KO” Tate

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danicìa “KO KO” Tate a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Danicìa “KO KO”, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from God.

There’s an idiom:

“Favor ain’t fair but it works.”

The strength that I’ve illustrated and the experiences I’ve persevered through in life. All of it solely comes from my Faith in Jesus Christ.

No Matter what may come my way, I know my life is in God’s hands.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I curate texture art pieces using mainly the method of up-cycling. I love working with recycled materials such as clothing, hair, pins, etc…

The most exciting part about being a multidisciplinary artist is learning to create something new from something old or used. Similar to the concept of the butterfly effect. 🦋

Every artist or creator has tried to find their niche at some point. Some of us our niche is just being a creative outlet.

Which has lead me to one of my most recent art adventures. As I’ve ventured into the digital art world.

This is year I was nominated at the Early Educators Appreciation Event of St. Louis, and received the 2024 Literacy Champion Award for the ‘Dakota Book Series.’ A book series written by me based on my own daughter’s experiences growing up.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

A great mindset is a quality one must possess. Stop thinking so hard and just be.

Do what feels right to you and add your skills to the equation.

Once I gathered my thoughts and stopped overthinking. My creativity started to flow and I got to work.

In one year I was able to complete 63 pieces of artwork that felt good to me. I let go and let it flow.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is anyone and everything.

All you have to do is look at me or for me to see you and now you’re a form of art.

“The world is my canvas!”

I am attracted to somethings more than others like bright colors, layers and rare beauty: what we don’t see everyday or what we look at and can see potential before it has even blossomed.
