Meet Shakeera Springs

We were lucky to catch up with Shakeera Springs recently and have shared our conversation below.

Shakeera, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience kicked in as a young girl when I lost both my parents. After this happened, I had to constantly pivot until my goals were accomplished. I never gave up during these hard times. I met resilience through adversity.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Recently retired from accounting of 20 years and transitioned into the holistic health field. I’ve always had a passion for human anatomy but didn’t fulfill this dream after high school. I went into Business and received a Bachelor’s and Masters in Accountancy instead of Pre-Med and so forth. After starting 2 holistic skincare companies and 1 herbal tea brand I knew it was time to make the switch. I received my holistic practitioner certification and I’m currently working on obtaining my registered herbalist certification. I have already started healing people holistically on their journey and I’m loving it. When the mind, body, and spirit are all aligned there’s no limits to what you can accomplish.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Working in corporate before venturing out into the entrepreneurial world taught me exactly how companies flow, or not flow within. I worked closely with teams from different departments and built a lot of meaningful relationships.

Building lasting relationships are extremely valuable especially for entrepreneurs. I would highly recommend to build strong connections.

I learned how to navigate through tough times when Covid hit. The world is ever changing and you have to keep up or get swallowed up. I would recommend to keep a healthy mindset as the world changes so you won’t get discouraged on your journey. Just because it gets tough you shouldn’t give up on your aspirations.

Navigating a business with kids is extremely challenging at times. With the help of my husband things were much smoother. So my last tip would be to make sure you have support if you have children if all possible.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

The 48 Laws of Power” by Robert Greene was an eye opener when understanding human nature, negotiation skills, building influence, managing relationships, strategic thinking, adaptability, and so much more. I would highly recommend this book to any individual seeking out these attributes with ethical consideration.
