Meet James Lewis

We recently connected with James Lewis and have shared our conversation below.

James , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

My journey of developing confidence and self-esteem has been a transformative one, marked by numerous hardships and challenges that paved the way for eventual success. Starting with nothing, I faced the daunting task of improving my speech and communication skills to attract more clients and seize networking opportunities. Initially, I struggled with conveying my ideas and making meaningful connections, but through persistence and repetition, I honed these skills over time.

Trial and error became my greatest teachers. I immersed myself in understanding body language and facial expressions, learning how people use certain words to convey their thoughts and emotions. This deepened my ability to connect with others on a more profound level. I also learned to be assertive about my needs and what I could offer my clients, ensuring clear and effective communication.

Through this journey, repetition became second nature. Each interaction, whether successful or not, contributed to my growth. I gradually built my confidence and self-esteem, transitioning from someone who had difficulty speaking to someone who could effectively communicate and network. This evolution not only improved my professional life but also enriched my personal development, leading to a more fulfilling and successful career.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Being Stern and Firm on Prices:
One of the most impactful skills I developed was learning to be stern and firm on my prices and clearly stating what I can and cannot do. This helped establish boundaries and ensure that both I and my clients had realistic expectations. It also communicated the value of my work and reinforced my professionalism.

Advice: For those early in their journey, it’s crucial to understand your worth and not undervalue your services. Start by researching industry standards for pricing and set clear boundaries for your capabilities. Practice confidently stating your prices and scope of work. Remember, it’s better to turn down work that doesn’t meet your standards or rates than to compromise on your value.

2. Time Management:
Balancing my main job, my business, my family, and my own personal sanity required excellent time management skills. Prioritizing tasks, setting schedules, and being disciplined about sticking to them allowed me to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Advice: Develop a structured routine and prioritize your tasks daily. Use tools like calendars, to-do lists, and time-tracking apps to stay organized. Don’t forget to allocate time for rest and personal activities to avoid burnout. Learning to delegate when possible can also free up your time for more critical tasks.

3. Communication:
Transforming from someone who stayed to themselves into a person who asks questions, vocalizes concerns, and confidently says “no” was crucial. Effective communication helped me build better client relationships and made sure that all parties were on the same page.

Advice: Practice active listening and ensure you fully understand your clients’ needs and expectations. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or express your concerns. Learning to say “no” respectfully is vital; not all opportunities are beneficial, and it’s important to maintain your integrity and promises. Continuous improvement in communication skills can be achieved through courses, reading, and real-world practice.

By focusing on these areas, you can build a strong foundation for your professional journey and ensure sustainable growth and success.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
