Meet Elizabeth Hendricks

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elizabeth Hendricks. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Elizabeth , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic is deeply rooted in the habits I formed as a little girl. At the young age of three, I started my journey in gymnastics, and by seven, I was already in the competitive world. Gymnastics didn’t just teach me the value of hard work; it instilled discipline, confidence, resilience, and the courage to take risks. The sport also fostered a strong sense of time management, goal setting, and perseverance, all of which are invaluable skills for young women.

After high school, I quickly realized I was destined to work for myself. My father was an inspiring example, as I watched him build and run his own company. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication left a lasting impression on me, guiding me toward opportunities that demanded self-discipline and hard work.

I began my adult life as a hairstylist, where I soon transitioned to renting a station and building my own business. This independent venture was just the beginning. I spent nearly a decade in network marketing, an industry that requires tremendous grit, determination, and self-motivation.

Now, I find myself running an online activewear company, a venture that brings its own set of challenges. The world of e-commerce is highly competitive and demands creativity, strategic thinking, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Every day, I apply the lessons learned from gymnastics, my father’s entrepreneurial example, and my diverse career experiences.

These experiences have shaped my work ethic, teaching me that success comes from a blend of hard work, discipline, risk-taking, and continuous self-improvement. As a business owner, these qualities are not just beneficial—they are essential. My journey has shown me that the habits and values instilled in childhood can profoundly influence and drive one’s professional life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

In November 2020, I embarked on a new adventure by starting my company, DYM Athletics. After my mother passed away in 2018, I wanted to create something meaningful and flexible, something that I could truly make my own. My mother had a special nickname for me, “Moon,” and she always encouraged me with the phrase “DO YOU MOON.” This heartfelt sentiment inspired the name DYM Athletics.

I’ve always cherished a healthy, active lifestyle and believe in looking good and feeling confident while doing it. I knew exactly what my clothing company would offer: high-quality workout clothes. My goal was to provide women with an alternative to the overpriced brands they love, offering the same premium feel without the premium price.

DYM Athletics is dedicated to delivering timeless, high-quality basics that become women’s new favorite pieces in their workout wardrobe. Our clothes are designed to instill confidence and support women on their journey to a healthy life. Each month, we introduce new styles to keep our collection fresh and exciting, ensuring there’s always something new for our customers to love.

Our commitment is to offer the best possible prices without compromising on quality, helping women feel empowered and stylish as they pursue their fitness goals. Through DYM Athletics, I strive to honor my mother’s legacy and bring her encouraging spirit to life, motivating women to “DO YOU” and embrace their individuality with confidence.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The first one is Resilience: Starting a business is a journey filled with challenges and setbacks. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from these obstacles and keep pushing forward. It’s about maintaining a positive mindset and not letting failures deter you from your goals. Embrace challenges as learning opportunities. When faced with a setback, take a moment to analyze what went wrong, what you can learn from it, and how you can improve. Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, and mentors who can provide encouragement and advice.

The second one being Adaptability: The business landscape is constantly changing, and being able to adapt to new circumstances is crucial. This means being open to new ideas, willing to pivot your strategies, and staying current with industry trends. Stay informed about your industry by reading relevant news, attending workshops, and networking with other professionals. Be open to feedback and willing to make necessary changes to your business model. Flexibility in your approach will allow you to navigate unexpected changes effectively.

Lastly, Self Discipline: Running a business requires a high level of self-discipline. You need to manage your time effectively, stay organized, and remain focused on your long-term goals despite the day-to-day distractions. Create a structured daily routine that includes setting specific goals and prioritizing tasks. Use tools like planners or digital calendars to keep track of deadlines and appointments. Hold yourself accountable by setting regular check-ins to review your progress and adjust your plans as needed.

By cultivating resilience, adaptability, and self-discipline, and by seeking out mentors, investing in learning, and building a strong support network, women can lay a solid foundation for their business ventures. These qualities and strategies will not only help them navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship but also empower them to achieve lasting success.
