We were lucky to catch up with Nolan Van Lith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nolan, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I love creating music that lets others experience what’s going on in my mind. To me, it’s like painting a picture, but with sound. I start with one note or drum and let it evolve, bouncing around until I have a finished piece that captures how i’m feeling. My music can be incredibly powerful for anyone seeking comfort, happiness, or just need some music to drive around. Hearing what people have to say about my work is what drives me forward and lets me know i’m doing the right things.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My brand, Carbon Citizens, is a platform for copyright-free music and creative content. We focus on producing music and visuals that inspire and elevate creativity. Over the years, we’ve released more than 110 songs and videos, all free for non-commercial use. We believe it’s important for creatives, athletes, students—really anyone—to have access to a wide range of music and visuals for their projects. Our goal is to grow this platform into a resource that everyone can rely on for their creative needs.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I could talk about this for hours, but at the end of the day, it boils down to this: never give up. Keep pushing for what you believe in. It’s that simple.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents are Amazing. My mom especially has been by my side since the day I was born, with a rare heart condition. She has supported me through two open-heart surgeries and every single up and down within my 27 years of life haha. She’s always backed me in everything I do, wanting the best for me while letting me find my own path. She has taught me that the only way to lose is when you give up. When things get tough, keep going—there’s always light at the end of the tunnel and things can change quickly.
