We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kiara Moody a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kiara, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem through self-reflection and recognizing the dedication I’ve put into my work. Perseverance has been key, and at just 22 years old, I’ve already made significant strides in the music and entertainment industry. My internship with LiveHipHopDaily podcast production provided me a foundation of opportunities to engage in influential circles. Networking has been instrumental in my success, and my confidence stems from a strong belief in my abilities and the positive energy I bring to any environment.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am one of the two creators of the LaughandKiki Podcast and the CEO of A Moody Conversation Productions, marking the beginning of what I envision as a lasting legacy. Our podcast highlights Black businesses, artists, comedians, and close friends and family who have valuable connections and stories to share. The future holds exciting plans, including opening a studio for broadcast entertainment and a music recording studio—so stay tuned!
I am currently working with RockLan one radio being a radio personality and A&R I’m so gravely for this new project can’t wait to have more to bring to this production
I’m expanding my network as far as possible while being a senior at Georgia State University. The focus of my podcast is to give a voice to the voiceless, addressing the lack of relatable, real-life experiences and stories in many of today’s podcasts. I strive to blend professional insights with the casual feel of sitting on the porch with friends. My goal is to create content that resonates with everyday people, offering uncut and unfiltered opinions and bringing genuine reality to podcasting.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I believe three key qualities were most impactful in my journey: adaptability, resilience, and mindfulness.
1. **Adaptability**: When I started podcasting, I had no experience with editing or camera work. Learning these skills on the fly was challenging but essential for my growth. My advice to those starting out is to embrace the learning curve and be open to acquiring new skills. There will always be aspects you don’t know initially, but with persistence and a willingness to learn, you’ll overcome these obstacles.
2. **Resilience**: One of the hardest parts was maintaining a positive demeanor on camera while dealing with real-life problems. It’s important to develop emotional resilience and learn how to compartmentalize personal issues from professional responsibilities. This skill is crucial for anyone in the public eye or creative fields where your energy and presence are integral to your work.
3. **Mindfulness**: Initially, I enjoyed posting casual photos online, but I’ve since become much more careful and mindful of my online presence. For those early in their journey, it’s important to be aware of how your online actions can impact your brand and reputation. Cultivating a mindful approach to social media and public interactions is essential for maintaining a positive and professional image.
I never imagined I’d get into podcasting. Growing up, I moved frequently and was exposed to various cultures and dialects, which led to a severe stutter. I was too embarrassed to attend speech therapy classes, so I taught myself to overcome my stutter. This experience taught me the importance of self-improvement and perseverance. For those starting out, remember that overcoming personal challenges can significantly shape your journey and success.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When life starts to get overwhelming, I always resort back to using a to-do list inside my daily planner. I believe that when we have too many things on our minds, it often feels like more than it actually is. Using a planner to organize short-term and long-term tasks—daily, weekly, monthly, and annually—makes life much easier.
Staying organized is the true key to success. I plan to create my own line of planners in the future, showcasing my success through the product itself. For now, my advice is to remember that it’s not always as big of a deal as it seems—you might just be overthinking and feeling overwhelmed. Keeping track of tasks and breaking them down into manageable steps can significantly reduce stress and improve productivity.
