We recently connected with Nicholas Espinosa and have shared our conversation below.
Nicholas, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I achieve resilience through the unwavering support of my family, friends, and everyone who has been a part of my journey in becoming a photographer. Their encouragement and belief in me have been a constant source of strength, helping me to overcome challenges and stay focused on my passion. It is this network of support that has empowered me to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles I face.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Presently located in Northern Washington, I strive to capture the world’s beauty through my photography, focusing on people and the diverse places my journey has taken me. In 2013, I left Los Angeles to serve my country and pursue further education. Nine years and 20 countries later, I find myself in the magnificent Pacific Northwest, continuing to serve while transforming my passion into art. Sailing around the world has provided unforgettable experiences that I encapsulate in my work, and my dream is to share these opportunities with others. Influenced by the diverse perspectives around me, I aim to document my life through my unique lens.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
If I had to choose three key aspects that have been pivotal in my journey as a photographer, they would be these. First, becoming familiar with the “3 C’s” (Content, Concept, and Composition) and how to apply them to your unique style. These steps help you achieve the look and story you want to illustrate with each piece. Second, technical knowledge is crucial—understanding what each setting does on your camera and additional equipment is vital for balancing light and achieving proper composition. Lastly, communication is an essential quality. Whether you want to work with a model, find a client, or secure a private location, effective communication is key to networking your craft and finding collaborators.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes! I am actively looking to collaborate with other creatives. I am particularly interested in partnering with fellow photographers, models, stylists, and artists who share a passion for capturing unique perspectives and storytelling through visual art. If you’re interested in collaborating, you can connect with me through my website (ne7photography.myportfolio.com) or reach out to me directly via email at [email protected]. I look forward to exploring new creative possibilities together!
