Meet Laura Britton

We were lucky to catch up with Laura Britton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Laura, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I used to be a very angry individual. I didn’t believe there was any kindness or compassion left in the world. Then tragedy hit. Popper was attacked by two dogs in his own fenced in yard. I was a distraught angry mess. He had to have multiple surgeries to save his life. The vet costs were over $8000 and fence cost were around $2000. My heart broke and my veins coursed with anger. I turned to the internet and with one of my sister’s help we were able to receive donations to ease the burden. I was so mad I was going to sue the owners of the dogs that attacked my beloved Popper. I turned to the Nextdoor App looking for advice and possible assistance. To my surprise people began helping in so many ways. People donated food, blankets, toys, post surgery cones and some even hand made some of the things for him. This began to restore my faith in the kindness and compassion left in the world. People became invested and wanted to learn more about life and how he lived and his interactions with the other animals in his life. So I began writing short posts introducing my other furbabies. This actually turned out to be very therapeutic and helped me work through my hostility in a healthy way. One day I was sitting outside watching Popper run and play. Then those two dogs passed by. I stood up anger washing over me and I saw Popper with a happy grin still wanting to be friends with them. This caused me to reevaluate myself and focus more on forgiveness and my own kindness and compassion that I put out in the world. I realized that I need to be a little more dog. This was the day I stopped my journey to sue and began writing posts that turned into stories that led to his own group on the Nextdoor App. This group had been telling me that his post would make great Children’s Books. After almost two years I finally caved and submitted our first book in our Popper’s Tails series called “Oh No Teddy!” I had zero hopes, but it went better than expected and our second book “Thunder the Mouse” is almost done being published and we are starting the publishing process for our third in July. Popper now in addition to his Nextdoor group has his own page and group on Facebook, his own YouTube channel, TickTock and Instagram accounts, all called PopperLovesYou. All our posts and stories are positive and encourage sharing Love, kindess and many other positivities.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

We write posts/stories for our PopperLovesYou group on FaceBook and Nextdoor. We make video versions of the posts for our PopperLovesYou pages on YouTube, TickTock, Instagram and FaceBook. All our posts/stories are positive and teach and share Love, kindness, understanding and many more positivies. All our posts and videos are soon to be part of our Popper’s Tails books. Our hope and dream is to help change the world by sharing Love and positivity.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Openmindedness- Keep your mind open and don’t be afraid to change we all evolve in our own ways.
Don’t be too hard on yourself- You are your own worst critic. Submit what you have. Don’t let being over critical of yourself cause you to over edit.
Remember to take a step back- Take a step, don’t get overwhelmed, everyone needs a break.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

I take a break or sometimes I just talk to someone. It’s amazing how many ideas can wash over you when you’re not trying.
