Meet Sana Yusuf

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sana Yusuf a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Sana, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic directly relates to how hard I saw my parents working as a child. My family is a typical first generation immigrant family. My dad worked crazy hours and my mom stayed home with the kids and made sure homework was done, laundry was folded, dinner was made and kids were good. They both worked hard in their own ways, whether it was in the house or out of the house. Watching them work day in and day out to ensure that me and my siblings had a great childhood and wanted for nothing was inspiring. As I grew up, I learned how much discipline and work ethic it took for them to provide us with the life we had. As an adult with my own children, I see the struggles of both of my parents, whether it be inside or our outside of my house. I also feel like most parents want better for their kids than they had. My parents set the bar very high, and I just want to make sure I am as good of a parent to my kids. My work ethic evolves around ensuring the stability and comfort of my family and as the seasons change, how hard or little I work change with it. One thing you’ll always get from me though is my absolute best, I take pride in what I do and want to ensure that I take care of my family and my patients.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I feel like at this point, the readers of Voyage probably know who I am but for those of you that don’t, my name is Dr. Sana Yusuf. I am the CEO and dentist at Sana Dental Studio + Spa. I am also a US Army veteran. Most people hate going to the dentist so my goal has always been to change the way people see the dentist and dental procedures. I have created a safe space where dentistry and aesthetic procedures come together in a judgement free zone. Our patient’s comfort and level of trust is our number one priority.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Adaptability, integrity, and passion – I am a perfectionist, it’s a good trait and a bad trait. From my time in the Army I learned that things will not always go the way you want and when they don’t you adjust fire and keep going. I also learned that you always do the right thing, even when no one is watching and lastly, if you are passionate about something, soak in as much as you can so that you are the absolute best that you can be. I think it all just boils down to being a good person. Do good and good will follow. I am not in the business of scamming or hurting people, as much as people like to think dentists are con artists and everyone hates us. I want to truly help people, and regardless of what else happens, as long as I am adaptable and I have integrity and passion – whatever is meant to happen will happen and whatever is meant to be for me will be for me. Just be a good human.

How would you describe your ideal client?

An ideal client or patient is someone who is willing to trust my professional opinion, my years of experience and education and willing to understand the mouth body connection. Dental care has become a commodity in today’s day and age, but it is another part of healthcare. The way the oral cavity relates to the rest of the body systems and systemic diseases is honestly mind blowing. A patient who comes in wanting to truly be the best version of themselves when it comes to their oral hygiene and oral health, that is my ideal client.
