We were lucky to catch up with Marlon Longart recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marlon, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive because I am always thinking about my next project. In recent months I have been developing personal projects for different clients, but the design is different. For each one of them has a story that connects them and is the graphic identity that I have seen building, for now that has kept my creativity afloat, because I am always thinking about how to connect the next project with the previous one, without them having to be the same or similar in appearance, but in essence and meaning have a connection
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Marlon Longart was born in Venezuela, at an early age he began to develop his pictorial skills, from a very young age he used to draw and paint, his parents seeing his skills decided to enroll him in a school of plastic arts and children’s expressions “Lourdes Armas”
Marlon then manages to develop his artistic skills and at the age of 12 he wins his first prize “first place” in the national contest, giving rise to his start in the artistic world, years later he goes to the “Armando Reverón” School of Plastic Arts. learning even more, different artistic activities which motivated the young man and to be more and more dynamic and precise in more artistic skills.
He also won other competitions and state recognitions developing works of art always with the intention of at some point venturing into the world of tattooing. So in 2015 he began his apprenticeship as a tattoo artist, leaving behind university and academic studies to dedicate himself entirely to the art of skin.
He quickly managed to officially enter a tattoo studio in the city and the artist who gave him the opportunity at that time was Julio Flores who was the owner until today of a famous tattoo studio in the city that always housed great local and national artists. . Marlon took the opportunity with a lot of commitment and with only one month of trial, Marlon managed to stay due to the effort and commitment which lasted about 1 year learning every day.
Later at a tattoo convention in Caracas Venezuela he managed to meet a Latin artist at that time Stefano Alcantara and his partner, who gave Marlon the opportunity to go for the first time as a resident artist outside his country and thus began his artistic career as tattoo artist and I spent 2 years in Lima Peru.
Then I travel for the first time to Europe as a guest artist for 2 months more or less to a tattoo studio located in a small town near Stockholm – Sweden, “30 minutes away by train or car”, a great experience full of a lot of learning with other international artists of a very good level.
Marlon returns to Latin America again to finish projects that he had started and then received a proposal for a visa to live and work in Sweden, which he accepts and begins his journey as a rising artist with great artistic potential. After a year in Europe, he began to receive numerous invitations from countries such as Germany, Austria, Switzerland and London, among others, and of course also from the USA, thus opening up more possibilities in his career
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most important things: one, patience, two, perseverance, three, study
For those who are just starting out, go step by step in detail, living each episode of your learning to the fullest without comparing your skills with other people and you will realize that a detailed process has many possibilities of being successful in the next stage even if it is unknown.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Appreciating everything my parents have done for me, I think the most impactful thing they have done is having the ability to look at my abilities in art and make the decision to enroll me in a school parallel to the regular one, but this was a school for children’s artists, later continuing to support me to the next level where I went from a school to a state art academy which helped me a lot in my career
