Meet Destiny Higgins

We recently connected with Destiny Higgins and have shared our conversation below.

Destiny, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Imposter Syndrome can be hard to overcome and most of the time you don’t realize that you’re actually suffering from it. Being in the same room as people who are very talented at their craft or extremely smart can leave you questioning if you truly belong in that same room. For me to overcome this, I had to remind myself that even with the self-doubt, I am still in that same room as those talented and smart people, which means I’m just as talented and smart.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I have been a makeup artist for the past 4 years. I love it! It is honestly so much fun. The most special part about being an MUA is seeing your client’s face after the look is complete. My clients radiate confidence when I am done! There is no better feeling as a makeup artist. I want potential clients to know they can trust me to achieve their desired look while using the least amount of makeup possible. A common concern with getting their makeup done professionally is the fear of the makeup looking cakey. This is why it is important to use as little product as possible. I have made this my mission as an artist.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The 3 qualities that were most impactful qualities in my journey were persistence, precision, and empathy. Persistence is extremely important because it was not easy at the beginning of this journey. You have people cancel last minute, no call no shows, or no clients at all. It can be hard and very discouraging, but you must keep going! It’s hard to believe that I am at this point of my career, with still so much room to grow.
The best advice I can give is to keep going. The clients will come even when it looks like they will not and when they do come, they will become family.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client for FacexDestiny is someone who is laid back and trusts the process. My ideal client is someone who knows that I know how to do my job and trusts me to do it well. When a client is worried the entire time they are in my chair, it makes what could be a very relaxing experience, unnecessarily stressful. Just trust me, you’re gonna love it!
