Meet SHILONDA SAVAGE

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to SHILONDA SAVAGE. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

SHILONDA, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my faith in God. There have been countless times when I felt like quitting and giving up because things became overwhelming. I often found myself annoyed by the amount of money I had invested with little to no return. When it all gets too much, I take a step back and shut everything down.

I turn off the noise of the world and immerse myself in worship music. I go into my quiet space where I pray, read my Bible, and worship. Singing is a passion of mine, and through singing and worshipping, I find my strength supernaturally renewed. In those moments, I remember my why and I feel ready to move forward again.

This process not only helps me regain my strength but also refocuses my mind and spirit, allowing me to tackle challenges with renewed energy and purpose.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the Founder and CEO of Dower Personnel Services, a healthcare staffing agency dedicated to connecting skilled healthcare professionals with the facilities that need them most. With over 10 years of experience in the industry, I have honed my skills in finding, sourcing, and securing top talent, ensuring that healthcare institutions can provide the best care to their patients.

What excites me most about my work is the impact we make on both the professionals we place and the healthcare facilities we serve. We provide opportunities for healthcare workers to grow in their careers and find fulfilling positions, while simultaneously helping healthcare providers maintain a high standard of care with qualified staff. This dual impact is incredibly rewarding and drives my passion for what I do.

One unique aspect of Dower Personnel Services is our personalized approach to staffing. We believe in seeing the candidate or client through their view by putting ourselves in their shoes. By treating them how we would want to be treated, we create meaningful connections and ensure that everyone feels valued and understood. This empathy-driven approach allows us to make perfect matches that benefit both parties.

Currently, I am focused on growing and expanding my brand. We are working on several exciting initiatives, including new service launches and expanding our reach to more healthcare facilities across Maryland and beyond. One of our goals is to bring awareness to as many people as possible about the importance of proper staffing in healthcare and the opportunities available for healthcare professionals.

Additionally, I am a published author, and I enjoy sharing insights from a biblical perspective. My faith plays a crucial role in my personal and professional life, providing me with the resilience and strength needed to overcome challenges.

As we continue to grow, I am excited about the potential to make an even greater impact in the healthcare industry, helping more professionals find their dream jobs and ensuring more facilities can provide exceptional care to their patients.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my story and the exciting journey of Dower Personnel Services. I look forward to connecting with more like-minded individuals and organizations as we expand and bring our vision to life.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three Most Important Qualities, Skills, and Areas of Knowledge

Looking back on my journey, the three qualities and skills that have been most impactful are resilience, empathy, and strategic thinking.

1. Resilience:
Resilience has been crucial in navigating the ups and downs of my career. There were times when challenges seemed insurmountable, but my ability to bounce back and stay focused on my goals made all the difference.

Advice: To develop resilience, it’s important to build a strong support system, maintain a positive mindset, and view setbacks as learning opportunities. Regularly reflecting on past challenges and how you overcame them can strengthen your resilience.
2. Empathy:
Empathy has played a vital role in my ability to connect with clients and candidates. Understanding their needs and perspectives allowed me to provide better support and build stronger relationships.

Advice: To cultivate empathy, practice active listening and put yourself in others’ shoes. Engage in conversations with an open mind and seek to understand before being understood. Volunteering and working with diverse groups can also enhance your empathy.
3. Strategic Thinking:
Strategic thinking has been essential for making informed decisions and steering my business towards success. It involves analyzing complex situations, anticipating future challenges, and planning accordingly.

Advice: To improve strategic thinking, stay informed about industry trends and developments. Engage in continuous learning through books, courses, and networking with experienced professionals. Practice breaking down big goals into actionable steps and regularly review your progress.
In addition to these qualities, I would say put God first, keep Him first, and be sure to consult Him on everything. Don’t look at what others are doing—the world needs you to show up, not a clone of someone else. There are specific people attached to your purpose and your destiny, so be the best version of you.

By focusing on these qualities and keeping God at the center of your journey, you can navigate challenges, build meaningful relationships, and make strategic decisions that drive success. For those early in their journey, I encourage you to embrace these qualities and skills, as they can significantly impact your personal and professional growth.
