We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carmen Turner Schott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Carmen, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
When I was in high school, people would often want to share their problems with me. I enjoyed helping people and realized that being a counselor was something that came naturally to me. I was spiritual and had a passion to find out why I was here on this earth. I started studying astrology when I was 16 years old and this became a tool that helped me understand myself and others better. I found my purpose was to help people understand their personalities and life experiences by using astrology. Astrology validated my purpose and helped validate my life experience. I would say I found my purpose by helping other people and giving them practical advice. Being a licensed clinical social worker, through counseling others, I realized that astrology is a tool that can help us heal, transform, and become more resilient.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Carmen has been researching astrology, healing, and the eighth and twelfth astrological houses for the past 30 years. She is a published author has has written 10 books on astrology and healing.
An eighth and twelfth house person herself, she has personally experienced the energies and lessons of these two very spiritually transforming houses. Carmen began her astrological work at the age of 16 after an experience with a glowing ball of light in her doorway and began studying metaphysics and the Edgar Cayce material at that time. She has presented astrology workshops for the Association of Research & Enlightenment (A.R.E.) throughout the years and teaches a variety of spiritual development classes.
She has been an astrology columnist for Spirit Seeker Magazine, Promise Magazine, and All Things Healing.com. Carmen’s goal is to educate and offer spiritual support for individuals who have planets in the eighth or twelfth astrological houses and she has dedicated her life to astrological research, counseling, and healing.
Carmen was born with intuitive abilities that she inherited from her maternal grandmother and uses these spiritual techniques to better serve her clients and those who reach out to her for assistance. She is an avid dream researcher and dream interpreter who uses dream incubation to help assist others on a deeper soul level.

Carmen believes that energy work and balancing the mind, body, and spirit is the greatest tool for healing and becoming more resilient.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities or skills I learned would be:
1. Trusting my Intuition
2. Learning to be more patient.
3. Not to take things personally.
My advice to others is that it’s important to listen to your gut instinct and never doubt that inner voice. There is a reason we feel things, and every time I ignored my inner voice, I regretted it.
It’s important to learn patience, and not to act impulsively or react too quickly. Taking a step back, calming down, and thinking things through before we act will help us make better life decisions.
Everyone is going through something and we don’t always know what is happening in other people’s lives. How we react to other people and how they treat us is the key. I had to learn that it doesn’t matter if people like me or believe in what I do. I had to learn not to take things personally. Everyone is going through battles we may know nothing about.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The most challenging thing I have been experiencing is change. Change is never easy for me and I like stability and comfort. My only child went off to college, and I experienced empty nest syndrome. It’s been a big adjustment for me. I had to embrace change and accept the new life and energy that I have now. I had to adapt and transform my relationship with my husband and change our routine. I had to learn to allow my daughter to grow up and trust she would make the right decisions. It felt like a death and rebirth experience, but I had to learn to release control. I am learning to let go and live in the present moment which can be challenging.
