Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Asma Rafiq. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Asma, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose as a chef through my deep-rooted belief that feeding people is a sacred act. This conviction stems from my faith and the importance it places on hospitality and caring for others. From a young age, I was involved in preparing meals for family gatherings, local shelters and community events, and I witnessed firsthand how food could bring people together and foster a sense of unity and gratitude.
Preparing meals for those in need was incredibly fulfilling. It reinforced my belief that feeding people is not just about providing sustenance, but also about showing compassion and respect.
I also love being able to express my creativity through the dishes I create, experimenting with flavors, textures, and presentation to craft unique and memorable dining experiences.
And so it was only a matter of time before everything aligned
. I always knew that whatever path I chose had to involve charity work, embracing food, honoring my faith, supporting family, building community, and also be a creative outlet.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I started my catering company Spice Moghul LLC in 2022. It has been an incredible journey! The initial steps involved extensive planning and research. I spent months defining my niche. I developed a business plan focused on offering unique, high-quality dishes and exceptional customer service. The journey was not without its challenges but we faced them head on.
Each challenge taught me valuable lessons about resilience and adaptability.
Over time, the company began to grow. We started with small events and gradually expanded to larger functions, each time refining our processes and services.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say
1)Resilience: The ability to persevere through challenges and setbacks is crucial.
2)Business Acumen: Knowledge of business fundamentals, including financial management, marketing, and operations, was vital. Running a successful catering business requires a balance of culinary skills and business savvy to ensure profitability and sustainable growth.
3)Customer Service Skills: Providing excellent customer service is essential in the catering industry. Understanding and exceeding client expectations helped build a loyal customer base and generate positive word-of-mouth referrals.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
For me it has been personal growth, recognizing what truly matters and what is deserving of my time and effort.
