We were lucky to catch up with Gina Verdejo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gina, really appreciate your meeting with us today to talk about some particularly personal topics. It means a lot because so many in the community are going through circumstances where your insights and experience and lessons might help, so thank you so much in advance for sharing. The first question we have is about divorce and how you overcame divorce and didn’t allow the trauma of divorce to derail your vision for your life and career.
Allowing myself to feel the different stages of getting a divorce. Everyone experience something different and having kids I realized this divorce will forever impact them. I felt anger, frustration, guilt, failure, fear, anxiety, and depression. I decided to go to therapy I needed help to process all of these emotions and feelings . I realized that the failure of that marriage wasn’t all my fault we didn’t have the foundation to make it last. In time I found the good in that union and learned from my mistakes. I allowed myself to find happiness and love that lead to a healthy relationship. Now I’m happily remarried.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Gina Verdejo, I have a couples podcast on Youtube with my husband that we started during the pandemic in 2020. This is my 2nd marriage and I felt that their are women who can relate to what I’ve been through and how I felt about getting married again. I encourage anyone who has relationship issues or dealing with infidelity to be honest about their feelings and expectations. I have 3 daughters and I know young girls are watching their mother’s every move so be mindful of the decisions you make. My advice comes from a place of empathy not judgement, we all have made mistakes in our past but we all have the power to change. Everyone deserves to be happy and that starts within. I work with young women to encourage them to focus on self love and show women it’s ok to start over.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1 of my greatest qualities is having resilience. The ability to withstand or recover quickly from a difficult time or situation. You have to be flexible life is changing everyday you have to keep up.
2nd quality is having faith, knowing that even if I fail at anything I know everything is going to be ok and work out for me.
3rd quality is having empathy, I can relate to so many and understand the feelings of another person without judging anyone.
Nobody life looks the same and social media can cause you to feel pressure if your don’t find that space where you can relate and grow. Surround your self with positive people who share the same goals. Build up your self esteem and make sure to work on being the best version of your self.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am looking to do more speaking engagements, collaborating to speak on panels. Speaking on platforms that can make a impact. Boost my platform to also include single women not just couples. I enjoy being in front of a crowd having a conversation allowing others to share and ask questions. I want to work with folks who can help build that platform and partner with them. I’m willing to collaborate on projects.
