Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hope Georgiou. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Hope , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I always love this question because it’s the easiest to answer. It will always be my parents. At the age of 13 my mother came to the US from Greece, worked in a suit factory, and did everything in her power to support her family and build a life for herself in this country. My father? The same thing. He came to this country from Cyprus, attended school to become an accountant, realized that wasn’t his passion, but then found his love for construction and started his own company from the dirt to what it is today. There are so many details that make the story of my parents something from a movie but for the sake of time I will sum it up.

You either work to live, or live to work. I come from a family that lives to work and instilled the values of independence and humility into me from the day I was born. As business owners I’ve seen my parents go through a lot. I’ve seen first hand how unfair things can be, how people will treat things that aren’t theirs, and I’ve seen blood sweat and tears be poured into something they are passionate about.

My work ethic comes from them but I think there’s another part as well. When two people you love sacrifice their lives to give you a better future, you have no choice but to keep moving up. I’ve been blessed to have parents who instilled strong values, work ethic, and support into my life and I promise myself everyday that I would never let that go to waste. I want to show them that everything they sacrificed for me will pay off and I will continue to build a strong foundation for my future family and generations after.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the founder of HG Media Group, the first and only marketing agency that specializes in creators and brands on Snapchat. You might be thinking “why Snapchat?” That is a valid question so let me explain.

When I graduated college I was extremely blessed to work at a phenomenal agency called Studio71 where I had some amazing mentors that pushed my abilities and guided me in this industry. I was trusted with tasks and accounts that not many people my age had the opportunity to have exposure to. In turn, I learned a lot about the industry in the matter of 3 years. Through my work at this agency I fell in love with the process of working with brands to develop creative marketing campaigns across socials as well as working with talented creators to fulfill these roles.

That’s how HG Media Group was formed. With the help of my co-founder, Collin Harrington, we were able to make this dream a reality. Our nimble team offers representation services to Snapchat creators as well as branded services to our clients, including influencer marketing, brand strategy, AR lens development, and more. In less than a year, we have executed campaigns with our creators for prestigious brands like Toyota, Levi’s, Paramount, and the Chicago Bulls.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Embarking on the journey of becoming a business owner was far from easy. One sacrifices stability and consistency for an uncertain venture. I entered this process with a clear understanding of the challenges and potential risks, recognizing that achieving something worthwhile takes time. As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Once I accepted the inevitability of failures and obstacles, I was ready to go full steam ahead. Interestingly, I often hear discussions about “impostor syndrome” in the entertainment industry, where individuals feel their work is undeserving of recognition. Reflecting on this, I realize I have never experienced such feelings. Perhaps it’s a combination of my upbringing and character, but I firmly believe in my right to be in the room and showcase my work.

Staying true to one’s values, being patient yet resilient, and prioritizing clear communication are essential qualities that have significantly impacted this journey. Just as you can’t build a strong building on a weak foundation, the same principle applies to growing a business.

It’s easy to feel the urge to rush through the process, but true success comes from steady progress. This journey demands time and dedication, and it’s crucial to remember that doors won’t open immediately. Obstacles and delays are part of the path, and they’ve provided valuable lessons that have strengthened both myself and the business.

When you have something worth building, don’t let the world tell you otherwise. One of my favorite quotes is from Elon Musk when he said, “When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.” Enjoy the journey, celebrate the small victories, and remain committed to your vision. The process itself is as rewarding as the destination.
