We recently connected with Bonnie Bitz and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bonnie, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
“The source of confidence, self-esteem, grit, and perseverance is simple, yet not easy to attain. It has taken me 72 years to understand this. I’ve learned that my identity doesn’t come from external things, my feelings, or the opinions of others. It comes from who God created us to be, all along.”
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My days are filled with the joy of creating watercolor paintings in my studio. This beautiful and expressive medium never fails to captivate me. Each day presents a new challenge, a new opportunity to learn. This is why I find myself exploring various subject matters and even genres, such as my recent foray into abstract painting.
For me, the true thrill of art lies in its ability to connect with others and brighten their day. The transformative power of art is what makes it so special. It’s a medium meant to be shared, to bring joy and inspiration to those who experience it.
I have joined the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild and would like to utilize the gallery opportunities and more professional training workshops.
My ultimate goal now is to be seen in some top galleries nationwide. I aspire to have my work inspire and connect with people on a larger scale, and I’m committed to working towards this goal.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Life and art are journeys; just say “yes” to the next thing. I’m grateful for my perseverance, a quality that’s essential in the world of art. I’m also thankful for my love of all things aesthetic, my supportive husband, and the many great artists who generously share their skills.
Embrace the challenges and learn from the best. Remember, you don’t have to navigate this journey alone; seek out a mentorship program. The wisdom and guidance of others can be a game-changer in your artistic pursuits.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Out of all the mentors, teachers, and programs I’ve encountered, I have to say that Matt Tommey’s mentorship program, Created to Thrive, has truly been the most life-changing for me. The knowledge and guidance I’ve gained from this program have had a profound impact on my personal and professional development. Additionally, I’ve also been very impressed with Ellie Milan, and I’m looking forward to seeking guidance from her as well.
