We caught up with the brilliant and insightful BackstreetswithCo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
BackstreetswithCo, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
I have learned that you have to be yourself regardless of what room you are in. People will either adapt or not, I learned not to get caught so much in that because to become succesful you may find yourself in a room where you are the only woman etc. black , gay ,

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have been providing top tier content for the past 5 years with our media platform/podcast, Backstreetswithco. Over the years by interviewing local artist to mainstream, I have kept a consistent flow of controversy and undeniable interviews. I plan on expanding into our first office studio soon.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful skill is to ask for help, communicate your needs, and network outside of your comfort zone.
My advice to anyone is to just get started, flaws and all. Read as much as you can especially in your area of expertise. You can develop yourself by listening to people in your field who have a proven track record.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The four agreements by Miguel Ruiz is my handbook to anything in life. In the music business there are so many ups and downs, but you cannot take anything personal .
