Meet Kobe Morrison

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kobe Morrison. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kobe, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Being a black and also queer performer & creator definitely has it’s challenges as far as feeling like I’m the only person in the room. There are times when I feel alienated from the rest of the group just by the way I talk, or topics I know little to nothing about being brought up in conversations/vice versa, or how I express myself through what I wear/listen to/watch/am inspired by, etc. But the best advice I can give to those who are faced with that is to lean into it more. Don’t shy away from what makes you unique. What makes you YOU is what got you in the room in the first place. So you don’t have to shy away from your differences because those are the qualities you bring to the table. Some individuals can’t do what you do because you’re special. Sometimes there will be moments where you feel misunderstood but eventually, the people around you will get it. But if they don’t that’s okay too.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an Actor & Singer primarily. I’ve just finished starring in a National Tour for a production of Charlotte’s Web as Wilbur the Pig for TheaterWorksUSA. I’m really proud & glad that I was given the opportunity to do that show for 6 months (Jan-June 2024), entertain over 68,000 live audience members, visit 57 cities, and perform over 140 shows! Especially since I graduated college in the spring of 2023, and having this be one of my first gigs outside of school, not to mention being a lead role was just surreal!

Now that I’m back home, my main focus is to finally record more music! I released a song titled “Candles” in January and another song way back in 2021 titled “Halloween Night”. But over the past six months, I’ve written a lot more songs and I’m ready to start production on my debut Album. I’m SUPER excited about it and I can’t share a lot of details on it right now, BUT I can say a lot of the songs are catchy Pop/R&b records that intertwine a lot of other genres in as well, and I do plan on collaborating with other artists as well! Plus film at least 1 music video for the album. Right now, I’m excited to dedicate my full energy to my music. You can find future releases plus what I’ve already released on all music platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc. Just search up Kobe Morrison!

As for the future, I plan on moving to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in TV/Film sometime in the fall/winter of this year. My ultimate goal is to land a Television sitcom or movie musical role. I still love to write and puppeteer as well, so it would be great if I could incorporate that too!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Leading with kindness is one of the most important things a person can do in any environment/situation. It sets the tone for respect, grace, peace, and just overall makes the task you’re doing enjoyable! Even if you’re having a bad day, you can still just be honest with your peers about it but still lead with kindness to not make the day worse for you or anybody else.

Another great piece of advice is to be yourself. There’s no need to dim your light for others or become a camelian. If the environment doesn’t quite vibe with your authenticity, then the environment isn’t worth being in. OR on the other hand, it could be even more of a reason to be there because something needs to change. However you feel about going about it.

Lastly, try to stay on top of your goals. It’s easier said than done but it’s good to try to be productive when you can be. If you need a break and time to reset and relax, that’s needed as well. But once you feel refreshed, it’s time to get your motor running again. Opportunities won’t come to you if you don’t meet them halfway.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m currently searching for someone to represent me and help me obtain opportunities & network as far as acting and singing. I need an agent and or manager, so if anyone knows someone looking for clients, please email me at [email protected].
