Meet Maleeka Alease

We recently connected with Maleeka Alease and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Maleeka , so excited to have you with us today and we are really interested in hearing your thoughts about how folks can develop their empathy? In our experience, most folks want to be empathic towards others, but in a world where we are often only surrounded by people who are very similar to us, it can sometimes be a challenge to develop empathy for others who might not be as similar to us. Any thoughts or advice?

Empathy to me bridges the gap and eliminates shame.
Having an open mind ,being emotionally aware and exposed to diversity are just a few things that helped develop these helpful tools.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I would have to say Emotional intelligence comes first. I possess the ability to recognize, understand, and manage my own emotions and learn those of others. Secondly, I have a great deal of
compassion. Showing genuine concern for others’ well-being and taking action to help when needed comes naturally to me .
Through early childhood struggles a blessing for adaptability became second nature which allowed me to Be flexible and willing to adjust my approach based on the situation and the people involved.
These are just a few of the skills I discovered throughout my journey and as I continue my journey they’ve helped me develop more. I think that it is important to identify the skills that you have that come naturally and then work on mastering those skills or revisiting those skills to help you where you are in that season in your life. To be honest, even going over this now for this interview has brought more awareness of the skills that I already have within me and the skills that I need to work more on like patience and confidence.
overall skill sets can be constantly improved and sharpened, always remember that!

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

The obstacle that I am facing right now would first be imposter syndrome! I’m dissecting that and unlearning that behavior or habit that I have adopted. Secondly, discovering my village.
People who genuinely have your best interest without viewing you as a threat. Knowing what I am seeking is seeking me also.
Everything that I’m creating and developing is a testament to what I’ve personally gone through or currently overcoming. The more that I pour into others causes my self-reflection which allows me to navigate through areas in my life that I didn’t even know existed. Sometimes this causes me to have silent and lonely moments to understand exactly what season I am in. which brings more authenticity to my creativity because I either lived it or living it! These challenges are not easy to face but they are necessary.
While reflecting I’m learning to discipline myself to pause and search within and eliminate the outside distractions and noise so I can understand the lesson.
It’s challenging to articulate as I’m learning to understand as I go through it.
Here’s a Gem for you:
You’ll always GO IN
You’ll always GO THROUGH
BUT REMEMBER! You’ll always COME OUT! This is the cycle of LIFE!
Now promise me you’ll LIVE ON PURPOSE 🤎
