LAWRENCE, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
When I think about resilience, I think about inner strength and pure determination, By definition, resilience is the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties.. In order to succeed, one must be resilient. I started playing sports at an early age- baseball, basketball, lacrosse, swimming and then golf , gold and more golf. Playing sports and losing makes you tough, makes you reflect on what you need to do better the next time you are up to bat or need to make a long drive. Resilience is a state of mind that when coupled with tenacity and the drive for skills improvement becomes a winning combination .
Where do I get it from– my training as an athlete and my mindset to reach my goals
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am and have been focused on personal fitness, training and coaching for the past 10 year while also working in the entertainment business on a wide range of shows including TV roles , movie appearances and music video performances.
My passion is health and fitness so I have recently launched a website www.lawrencemurphyfitness.com and am in the process of creating a fitness app so that others can benefit from my personal experience and journey and offer the opportunity to get fit and stay fit. .
My philosophy is fitness for life; I believe in reaching one’s potential in every way that is meaningful and want to use my own experience to helping others achieve their best. As a personal trainer, my approach to training encompasses the major components for good health and fitness: healthy nutrition plan/daily diet, individualized cardio and workout plans, with weekly adjustments coupled with a positive health behavior mindset. My mantra is perform, exceed, succeed !
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
It is actually quite difficult to identify only 3 skills or qualities that have impacted my journey, as I firmly believe that it takes the multitude of qualities and the ability to execute despite setbacks that have fueled my journey. I would name resilience, self awareness and quest for improvement as most prominent in driving me towards my goals, but would add diligence and self worth to the mix as well. I am constantly preparing and learning all I can for any specific casting as well as reassessing and reevaluating my own fitness regimen for improvement. The amount of knowledge is key to success but so is the ability to be honest with yourself and feel good about what you do.
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who is committed to getting fit and is willing to do the hard work to get there. That doesn’t mean that when you undertake a fitness program , you have to give up everything but you may need to adjust your diet and social habits. to see results. These positive health behavior changes will set you up for success.
