We recently connected with Jelisa Dallas and have shared our conversation below.
Jelisa, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
In my latest book, “Soul Work: Disrupt Self-Sabotage, Renew Your Mind, and Transform Your Life,” I embarked on a journey of self-discovery that bolstered my confidence and self-esteem. By identifying five key areas that significantly impacted my well-being, I found the path to genuine transformation.
I began by evaluating my intentions and the person I aspired to be, aligning my thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to cultivate internal peace. This shift allowed me to take ownership of my life, focusing on what I could control rather than blaming others. Practicing gratitude became a cornerstone of my daily routine, as I journaled my appreciation for the people and blessings in my life. This practice reframed my focus, becoming the driving force behind my newfound confidence and self-esteem.
My journey was deeply rooted in my faith, commitment, and the support I sought along the way. Through these pillars, I was able to make time for personal growth and stay dedicated to the transformative process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As the visionary of Go Brave Coaching and Consulting, I empower individuals and organizations with emotional intelligence to live courageously. Our mission is to break down barriers to success, instill a confidence that fosters belief, and cultivate courageous behavior that promotes genuine belonging. By intertwining faith and emotional intelligence, we emphasize the commonalities within the human experience to inspire hope in a world that often feels hopeless.
My journey began with a profound cry for freedom and a determination to disrupt fear. This path led me to uproot shame, enhance my self-awareness, and realign with my true self, shedding the lies of my past. Today, our mission is to promote courageous living, guiding humanity toward authenticity, advocacy, and appreciation of self and others.
We are thrilled to offer training and development services for educators, counselors, healthcare professionals, clergy, and human services workers. Our goal is to empower these professionals to better serve their communities, alleviating the overwhelm, burnout, and exhaustion that often accompany their roles. Additionally, we provide keynotes, workshops, and courses in DEIB, business, leadership, well-being, and authorship, all designed to inspire, uplift and equip our audiences.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The most impactful skills on my journey were developing a growth mindset, identifying and implementing my values, and building a disciplined routine. Cultivating a growth mindset required me to embrace lifelong learning, be open to constructive criticism, value effort over emotions, prioritize progress over perfection, and create a plan with actionable steps to achieve my goals.
Identifying our values involves understanding the principles and standards that guide our behavior. When we know what’s important to us, we make better decisions. Implementing our values allows us to align our beliefs with our actions.
Finally, I established a routine of daily journaling and practicing gratitude. This routine helps me maintain discipline, which surpasses the fleeting nature of motivation. While motivation is like a flickering light, discipline is like the sun, self-sustaining and constant. These skills were crucial in my transition from living in fear to flourishing in life.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

These individuals desire to make better decisions, cultivate authenticity, and lead a life of gratitude and discipline. They are ready to embrace courageous living, reduce burnout, and empower themselves and their communities. My greatest joy is partnering with my client are equipping them to transform their mindset, enhance their well-being, and help them flourish in their personal and professional lives.
