Meet Mary Grace

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mary Grace. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mary Grace below.

Mary Grace, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I owe my confidence and self-esteem highly to the pageants and modeling I did when I was younger. Not many people know that I used to do pageants, but between the ages of 15-20 I did quite a few! I modeled till I was about 25 years old. I always was a more outgoing person, but that didn’t necessarily mean I was confident. Through pageants and modeling, I had to learn to be even more independent than I already was. Going into a room full of people I didn’t know wasn’t easy at first but overtime it became second nature.

This time in my life helped me learn determination as well. It helped me realize that if I wanted something bad enough and I put my mind to it and practiced to get there, I could.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

In 2020 I made a big move from Pennsylvania to Colorado. I had my dream job as a Skiwear Buyer for 4 years prior to moving and for 6 months I worked as a buyer for a Sporting Goods company. I had always wanted to move to Colorado and one day I just had the feeling of “I need to do it now.”

When I moved I lived in a small town outside of the city and therefore could not continue working as a retail buyer, unless I wanted to move into the city. I love the open space and outdoors so living in a city was out of the question for me. I worked a few different jobs in town until I found what I really wanted to do. I noticed a theme in the jobs I was at…every company needed help with social media. As someone with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, I felt very called to this specific area of marketing. This is how MGRAE MEDIA was developed.

I began helping businesses on a small scale while I worked a part-time job, and after a year I went full-time working for myself. I love getting to help others and this is the perfect way to do so. I have clients who are photographers, spa owners, wedding coordinators, realtors, outdoor clothing brands, and more. The versatility of my clientele really keeps me going. Getting to work with people in different industries keeps my work interesting! My passion will always lie with the outdoor industry as I worked in this industry for 10 years prior to my career shift.

At MGRAE MEDIA my goal is to help save small business owners time so they can focus their time and energy on other areas of their business they are an expert in! I help with full social media management which includes; creating a social media strategy, plan, content, copy, and doing competitor and SEO research. I also help in smaller capacities which included 1:1 Coaching Calls and partial social media management. With my goal to help small business owners these packages can look different for everyone!

I am currently taking on new clients for the fall as my business is growing and we are expanding internally!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Determination, self-identity, and confidence.

If you are not determined and motivated to keep going, it isn’t going to work. There are a lot of ups and downs when you start a business. Things do not got as planned and you have to be able to tell yourself you WANT this and will keep going. Things do not happen overnight.

Knowing who you are is important because you will be looking to others in your industry for advice and ideas. Seeing others succeed can be motivating but it can also be defeating at times. Know who you are and what sets you apart from others!

Your confidence will make you successful. If you have confidence, others will see it. They will see you as professional and established, and this is key when starting a business. Make people think you have been in business for years, not months.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

I love this question! I feel I have been very lucky with the clients I have had, and they have taught me a lot about who I want to work with.

My ideal client is someone who is overwhelmed, they do not have time to sit down and create social media posts, but they know the worth and value of using social media. They want to hand off social media to someone else who is an expert. This person may want some involvement, but not a ton.

I never want to put myself in a box, which is why I work with a variety of clients. My dream clients are business owners in the industry who are looking to build their brand awareness and get their name out there to others in the industry! With this said I am not closed off to other industries by any means. I am always looking to tap into new industries so that I can learn and grow my knowledge!
