Meet Tevin Euell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tevin Euell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tevin, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Honestly, I don’t think I have. Really I feel I’m just coping. I think seeing success and taking the long, harsh route to it when others are seeming to take the elevator to the top, gives you the sense. Whatever you do just isn’t enough TO YOU. I believe I learned to have a cut off with projects and things I’m doing by saying ” it’s good enough.” I have gotten out (partially) of the mindset of making it perfect. When truly, nothing you do will ever be.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m the owner and spearhead of my own clothing brand, Fresh Out The Box (FOTB for short). The most exciting thing about it all is me putting my creative out in the world and people actually rocking with it. I try to make it Memphis as possible with the themes and message. My shorts have garnered a bunch of attention since I’ve done Memphis Tigers and Penny Hardaway -themed ones. It’s special because not my brands here thrive or stick around long enough to see the long term goal ahead. I feel as my brand is 1 that will stand the test of time and be remembered for putting my hometown in that positive light. This year I’ve been in a lot more festivals & markets to widespread my marketing and what I have to offer. I actually got in contact with the Downtown Memphis Commission about having a location with a program they are offering, so fingers crossed that goes through!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I feel doing research, trial & error, and repetition have been impactful qualities to have on my journey. Those 3 things will get you so far and you don’t have to strive off course to achieve any of them. they are everyday qualities people take for granted because they are not use to seeing the work, just the finished product. The best advice I would give to anyone is follow those and incorporate it to whatever you do. Before you know it you will be far along than you imagined.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

Gave me a glimpse of the real world early. Nothing is given, we’re not playing with a full deck in life so play the best with the hand you’re dealt. My road hasn’t been easy by a long shot nor will I ever pretend it was. Understanding and making the best decisions from that made me today. Life is real and in-your-face, yet navigate it like its the most precious thing to you.
