We recently connected with Ansley Gilyot Garibaldi and have shared our conversation below.
Ansley, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from staying aligned with my goals and channeling my inner confidence when I am met with adversity. It is sometimes easier said than done, but when faced with a challenging circumstance, I try to focus on the elements of the situation that are within my control. I remind myself that I have the power to change the narrative of my life and that remaining steadfast in my purpose has served me well so far in life and it will continue to do so. Certainly there are things beyond my control and that is where adaptability comes in. In business and in my personal life, I believe that mental agility is a strong quality that has allowed me to thrive, even in challenging circumstances.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a Louisiana licensed Real Estate Agent who primarily services the Greater New Orleans Metro area. I service clients with residential and commercial sales and leases. The most exciting part of my work is that each day encompasses a new dynamic, new interactions and new spaces. It is so special to be a part of such important milestones as helping families find their next home, adding property to an investor’s portfolio and partnering with growing businesses. I believe that my clients are truly the best part of the work that I do and I feel lucky to be in service to them. With previous work experience in real estate financing and insurance, I am able to provide a well-rounded approach to all things real estate and provide exceptional service to all of my clients. When not directly working as a Real Estate Agent, I enjoy the creative side of the business which is the design and build process. I provide services to my clients who need assistance with selecting finishes and home improvement projects and also work with some clients who need help from their first phase of construction all the way to interior decorating. I am thankful to be considered a Trusted Advisor for all things real estate by my clients.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In my journey, having interview coaching, working in customer service and leading a team have been a few of the most impactful moments. While in high school, I participated in State and Local pageants and my mother enrolled me in interview coaching. Through this experience, I learned, at a young age, to be intentional with my words and it instilled confidence in me when speaking to others. In college I worked for a very successful and dynamic businessman as part of his Insurance Agency staff. In this role, I learned customer service and the importance of being accountable to others. Prior to real estate, I served in a leadership role for a Fortune 100 company and lead a team of professionals specializing in casualties and fatalities associated with automobile accidents. In this position, I learned how to motivate a team and achieve success collectively. I deepened my awareness for business at a higher level and critical leadership skills. My advice to others who are early in their journey, both personally and professionally, is to eliminate distractions and only allow space for positivity and productivity.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
I am so fortunate that my parents have been and continue to be supportive in my life. My parents showed me, by example, what hard work and dedication to family means. My parents provided me with excellent education, exposed me to positive extra curricular activities and fostered an environment for me where I could thrive and develop into the best version of myself. My parents always encouraged me to chase my goals and to be self- sufficient. They impressed upon me that your word and your name will leave lasting impressions on those around you. Collectively, having such strong role models in my parents has impacted my life in a positive manner and I am the person who I am today because of them and their tremendous influence on my life.
