Meet Austin Salter

We were lucky to catch up with Austin Salter recently and have shared our conversation below.

Austin, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I have been developing my confidence and self-esteem my whole life. Just like anyone else, I have my own insecurities that I struggle with. Over the years, I have found some helpful ways to positively express my confidence. I’ve always loved singing and I knew one day I wanted to make music and perform in front of people. I would sing everywhere; the mirror, the shower, the bathroom and the car. Doing this helped me overcome my anxiety around performing. Every time I failed at something, I would give myself time and then try again. Stepping out of my comfort zone was the only way I grew as a person. Comparison is the thief of joy and that was something I had to learn to understand in time. The way I walk, talk and carry myself is something i’ve embraced wholeheartedly. There is no one just like you in this world. Everything about us is unique and it’s important to accept yourself as you are. Living authentically and genuinely has changed every aspect of my life and allowed me to step into my power as an adult.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am six years into my career as an artist and I don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. I just released my debut album, Hand of Mercury in May and I have many exciting collaborations coming out this year with amazing talent from all over the world. I’m at a really exciting point in my musical journey. Everything I’ve dreamed about since I was kid is happening now and I couldn’t be more proud of myself. I already started writing my next project and I’m experimenting with new sounds and genres at the moment. I’m currently focusing my efforts on collaborating with new artists and expanding my catalog as a songwriter. This next chapter is gearing up to be my best one yet.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three skills that are most impactful to me in my journey are adaptability, determination and creativity. The music industry is constantly changing and it was important for me to adapt to new situations and dynamics in music. I was determined to make music no matter what, that is what fueled my creativity. Day in and day out, I was writing, trying new things, harmonizing and stacking vocals to see what I could create. There are so many demos and unfinished songs on my laptop but the beautiful part of it all is how is the work I’ve done and will do is immortilized in time. Music is timeless and that is why i aquired the skills necessary to pursue my passion for it. My advice to anyone starting out in music would be to listen to your heart. There will be naysayers and people who won’t support you in the beginning. You will invest a lot of time and money into building the foundation. It is easy to lose hope because it does take awhile to really find your sound, musicality and artistry. Practice makes perfect. Write, create and sing over and over and over again even if it means you’re doing it for the 100th time today. You can only improve and develop if you are consistent. Be able to handle rejection and criticism but don’t let it define and shape you. Your music is one of a kind and can change world if you truly believe. I advise that you trust the process. The universe has a special way of guiding and assisting one’s actions and propelling them to success. It doesn’t happen overnight but if you really love music, it will be a lifelong experience if you choose to follow it.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
