We recently connected with Lizzie Bosen and have shared our conversation below.
Lizzie, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
I make it a point to prioritize my mental health and health overall. For example, I quit drinking, I got a degree, I make sure to exercise regularly and get enough sleep. I go to therapy when I need too…If I take care of myself I can be there for my loved ones and get everything done.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT. I’m bi-racial, ex-Mormon, a feminist, liberal, and struggled for many years alone through deep loss, abuse and neglect. As you might guess this presented me with some big issues, tension in relationships, mental health issues. Utah is beautiful, and my all my experiences have led me to where I am today, so I wouldn’t change anything. I’ve had a lot of privilege in my life too. I love to help other identifying females who identify as empaths and survivors, find their spark for life, self love, and trust in others again. I have a very heavy at times, but very rewarding job. I love being my own boss also and all the freedom that comes with that. I’m looking forward to growing Her Wellness and seeing where it takes me!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Knowledge, pushing myself, and therapy! Knowledge is power, whether you get a degree or are self taught, this is key to success in life. Personal development and self care is also essential. I recommend anyone struggling to look at these ares of their life. Look within and find something interesting, something you like, and take up a class or read books on it and network. If you like your job, and you make decent money, life is much easier. I also recommend as part of your self care/self development to use healthy boundaries and assertive communication with all. This means surrounding yourself with supportive, helpful people.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My family, friends, colleagues and partner have been the most helpful in helping me overcome challenges and develop all the skills, qualities and knowledge that I need to succeed as a successful practice owner and all my roles today. I also pushed myself and really wanted this, so I can’t leave myself out of the equation too! Never quit on yourself.
