Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to AYVA. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
AYVA, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience hasn’t been easy for me in most cases. As I’m going through a difficult time, I’m not aware that I’m getting through it. I’m just trying to get through it. I’ve learned through time and experience that I will eventually get through tough situations, so I just try to hold on and cope until the hard part is over.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m AYVA. I’m a 16-year old musician who uses music as an outlet for my emotions, stress and anxiety. I started playing piano at the age of 5, then moved to electric guitar when I was 10 and at the same time joined my first band. A few years later I formed my second band and was the lead singer and guitarist. Now I’m working on my solo career with new original songs that are being released on all streaming platforms and I get the chance to perform the songs live in front of audiences. It’s so much fun.
The best part of writing and composing my own songs is going to record them in the studio. When I’m at the studio recording it feels like there’s no time and before you know it 8 hours has passed by. Time passes so fast because I love the process of bringing my music to life. Making music is what I love to do.
Music has been my friend in many ways. It’s helped me release my anxiety and helps me feel more like myself. I wrote most of the songs that are out now during COVID when I felt scared and isolated. I think that’s why people who have had some of the same emotions I have, really relate to my music. I’ve received messages from many of them thanking me for helping them realize they’re not alone.
I’ve been releasing a new song every few months since November of last year and plan to continue to do so well into 2025 until I release my album. I’m most looking forward to performing my songs for audiences. You can go to my website ayvamusicofficial.com for my show schedule.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three things that have been most impactful in my journey are building my music skills through great teachers, knowing never to give up, learning not to be my own worst critic.
I know I’m a forever student in music. Every teacher has taught me something special that I’ll take with me forever. I feel so thankful to all of them.
I’ve learned that being my own worst critic is completely unhelpful. It really just get’s in the way. There have been many times that I’ve had writers block or can’t think of a new riff and it’s completely paralyzed me and wasted time. It’s better if I just let go, give it time and not everything has to be perfect.
Luckily I’m determined, so I don’t give up and eventually things fall into place.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My Mom has been my guide. She’s the strongest person I know and has been the best example for me to follow. I watch her constantly doing a million things, but she always has time for me to help with school, my career and is just my mom by my side every day. She knows what to do when I’m anxious and gives me just the right advice when I need it. She helps to keep me present, calm and grounded.
