We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dena Halim a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dena, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I’ve learned to become effective and successful in all rooms and all environments because no matter where I am or who I am around I always remain myself,
It’s something that will always separate me from others but it will always make me remain myself and always be authentic. Everybody is different and special
In their own ways.

My Name Is Dena Halim, I am The owner of pretty and paid lashes Xo llc located in center line Michigan. I specialize in eyelash extensions as well as esthetics,
I also offer lash courses to train others in hopes to held them start their own brand one day. The most exciting thing about my career is being blessed with a talent and skill that makes all women feel beautiful and confident in their own skin.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three major things I learned while on this journey, was to believe in myself, don’t compare myself to others, and never give up.
Any advice I can give to anybody that is a beginner lash artist is to keep going! This isn’t a skill that can be mastered overnight, it takes lots of hard work, practice and dedication. Practice definitely makes perfect, especially in the lash industry.’
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Pretty And Paid Lashes Xo LLC is always offering eyelash extension courses. These classes can be one on one, or in a group class. We offer these classes because I would love to build a team! We’re also always looking to branch off and do collaborations, photo shoots, content videos, private lunch or dinners, always looking to help support any kinds of non profit organizations as well.
