Meet Kelsi Manuel

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kelsi Manuel a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsi , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

Growing up I watched my mom work so hard for my siblings and I. I saw how no matter what she was going through, she woke up and did what she needed to do with a smile on her face. My mom grew up rough, she had to drop out of school to help take care of her siblings and struggled financially. Seeing how strong of a person she is no matter the circumstances has been so inspiring to me. My mom makes it happen no matter what and I am so grateful to have gotten my work ethic from her. I want to be able to pay her back in so many ways!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I own KG Wax Studio located in Sola Salon on Bower Parkway, about 5 minutes from Columbiana Mall! I’m a Licensed Esthetician that specializes in body waxing, more specifically women’s brazilian waxes/vajacials. Waxing is my passion, I genuinely have the best job anyone could ask for. I get the opportunity to meet so many new people who are genuinely special and create connections with them. It’s just something about being apart of the process of making someone feel beautiful. When I started Esthetics school I instantly knew I was going to go solo and own my own business. Just being able to have the opportunity to do this is such a humbling experience. I work so hard to make sure each one of my clients feel like they are my only one! I am so grateful for each client that chooses to book with me because without them I would not be able to continue to do what I love!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Most definitely resilience, networking/relationship building, and ultimately learning how to take a risk. My advice for people would be have a business plan, don’t hesitate and always stay adaptable! Always have an open mindset as things are always changing or might not go exactly how you plan it. Move forward and learn from those mistakes.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Honestly, I am very opened minded on looking for a partner! I have been wanting to move to more of an office building with someone that’s either a Cosmo. or a Licensed Esthetician who specializes in facials. Building other business connections are so important so you can help each other network and grow.
