Meet Francesca Lia Block

 

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Francesca Lia Block. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Francesca Lia , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I have two children and no matter what happens I am here to care for them for as long as I live. That is what has gotten me through many financial, physical and emotional challenges.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’ve written and published over thirty books of fiction, non-fiction and poetry, including my most recent novel HOUSE OF HEARTS, which will be out in paperback in November. as well as DANGEROUS ANGELS: THE WEETZIE BAT BOOKS. Using methods from my craft book, THE THORN NECKLACE: HEALING THROUGH WRITING AND THE CREATIVE PROCESS, I teach creative writing at Antioch University, Los Angeles, UCLA Extension, Pocket MFA and privately through LIT ANGELS Writing Studio at the Village Well in Culver City, and my personal website where you can contact me for private consultations and order my 10-week video course. My online literary journal LIT ANGELS is available on Substack so please check it out, subscribe, and submit through [email protected] And I’m working on a graphic novel called ROSE PINK CADILLAC.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I’m also looking for writing instructors for our Lit Angels Writing Studio at the Village Well in Culver City. And most of all I’m always looking for creatives who want to collaborate on film projects. I’m currently developing adaptations of DANGEROUS ANGELS, HOUSE OF HEARTS and my original screenplay ROSE PINK CADILLAC, and would also like to adapt THE ELEMENTALS, BEYOND THE PALE MOTEL and others for film and TV.
