We recently connected with Ashli Ellis, Kassidy Martin, Haley Martin and have shared our conversation below.

Ashli Ellis, Kassidy Martin, Haley Martin, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

We are three sisters who just wanted to take our interests and connect with others to try and contribute to their lives in a meaningful way. We love supporting our community and offering affordable spirit wear and other items that bring people joy. We value gratitude and giving back, and running these boutiques has given us the opportunity to do so in many different capacities. We get to make a lot of connections with others and surround ourselves with a lot of positive people which brings us a lot of joy. We are super close and being able to work together, be creative and laugh all the time gives us a great sense of purpose and happiness!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

We started a boutique in downtown Platte City in February 2023. We opened another store front in downtown Smithville in September of 2023. It started with Kassidys creativity and love of making tshirts. Opening these stores gave her the ability to create some really great spirit wear for our communities and offered us the ability to support other small business owners by bringing them in as vendors. We have so many amazing vendors who offer everything from earrings, candles, jams, hats, children clothing and so many other unique handmade gifts. The amount of talent and creativity we have in our stores is incredible! We focus on offering a wide range of items and apparel that is affordable. We love that we get to support others and their passions by offering their items in our stores.
We offer a lot of fun stuff! Every Tuesday we do a 12 dollar tshirt (we love to joke around so humor is usually the trend we go with for the tshirt) and we just started a hat bar at our Smithville location so you can come in and customize a hat with awesome prints, patches, and chains!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Family is most important always. We own businesses together but first we are sisters. Supporting and respecting each other will always be our top priority. We are each other’s biggest cheerleaders and that is the best motivation to continue to grow and run our boutiques.

Surrounding yourself with the right people is key. Build relationships with positive people. Those are the ones who will support you and will inspire you to keep going. Having those people with positive attitudes in our lives help us to cope with difficult situations and challenges and enhance our own personal growth.

Resilience is so important. There will be failure and setbacks. They are a part of the journey and we have seen that those setbacks can actually bring opportunity for growth and valuable lessons. Giving up is not an option!

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When we feel overwhelmed we really lean into each other. We recognize that self care is important and really value that we’re taking care of ourselves and our families first. We delegate tasks. We ask each other what we need. We spend time together without talking business and we also plan out times where we do talk about business. Effective communication is important when running businesses and we make sure it’s a top priority so that we are all on the same page.
