We recently connected with Derrick Richemond and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Derrick, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I began boosting my confidence by embracing my smile. Since elementary school, I’ve received many compliments on it, which encouraged me to smile more often. Plus, having naturally straight teeth has been a great confidence booster, especially since I never needed braces.
A great smile is always great for the camera. That allowed me to have confidence in front of the camera and from there I knew I could be in front of the camera without any insecurities.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a dynamic multi-talent with a passion for sports reporting, photography, and music! By day, I’m hitting the scene as a sports reporter for a leading publication in Georgia. But when the workday is done, I’m grabbing my camera to capture stunning portraits and fancy cars, creating captivating content for social media, and rolling out the beats as a drummer and pianist. From playing gigs at amazing concerts and weddings to collaborating with other musicians for exciting cover song performances on TikTok and Instagram, my life is truly a non-stop thrill ride. And the excitement doesn’t end there – we’ve got a hot gig lined up for a Haitian concert later this July.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One that was most impactful in your journey is that to be your biggest fan and not your biggest critic. I know it’s easier said than done but if you keep trying you can only get better. Along the way, people will notice and that will fuel you to go even harder.
For social media purposes of getting views, people are stuck in the mindset that 200 views is a flop but imagine those 200 people pulled up to an event that you hosted. That would seem like a lot of people right? The point is that never get dissatisfied with clicks, views, or likes you get because you’ll never know whose watching or where it can lead to.
Lastly, have faith. I have faith in God and I know if I ask and believe I will receive. Have to remember delays are not denials.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Lately, I’ve been tackling the exciting challenge of enhancing my videography editing skills. This summer, I’ve been passionately creating weekly vlogs using my high-end camera. Oftentimes, I find myself without a helping hand to maneuver the camera, so I rely on my trusty tripod. Initially, I was concerned about public perception when setting up my equipment in various locations, especially if it wasn’t directly related to my sports reporting. However, I quickly realized that people will judge you for just about anything. I bravely started filming workout videos at the gym, and now I feel completely at ease lugging my camera and tripod to any location.
