Meet Rhiannon Pelletier-Guerrette

We recently connected with Rhiannon Pelletier-Guerrette and have shared our conversation below.

Rhiannon, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

My self-discipline comes from my homeschooling experience, which was guided by my mother. From a young age, I was responsible for managing my own schedule and ensuring I met my educational goals. This autonomy instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to self-motivate. Being in charge of my own learning journey not only helped me develop excellent time management skills but also fostered a sense of ownership over my tasks.

This foundation of self-discipline and autonomy is a significant reason why I believe I am an entrepreneur today. I enjoyed being in charge of myself and making decisions that directly impacted my success. These early experiences of self-reliance and proactive planning have been crucial in shaping my entrepreneurial mindset and approach to business.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Thank you for the opportunity to share my story and the exciting developments at Maine Dance Center and Maine Dance Company.

About Me:
My name is Rhiannon Pelletier-Guerrette, and I am passionate about dance and the arts. My journey in dance has been incredibly fulfilling, and I am thrilled to be able to share this passion with others through my work. I am the founder and director of Maine Dance Center, a place where creativity, dedication, and excellence come together to nurture dancers of all ages and levels.

We believe in fostering a love for dance in a fun and engaging way, ensuring that every dancer feels valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Maine Dance Company:
I am also thrilled to announce the launch of Maine Dance Company, our new initiative aimed at bringing professional-level dance performances to the community. Since its inception, Maine Dance Company has been continuously booking new performances, showcasing the incredible talent of our dancers. Our performances are a blend of technical excellence and artistic expression, designed to captivate and inspire audiences.

What’s New:
We have several exciting new offerings and events at Maine Dance Center:

Summer Dance Intensive: Our annual Summer Dance Intensive is a highlight for many dancers, providing an opportunity to train with top instructors and choreographers in a focused and immersive setting.

New Classes: We are constantly expanding our class offerings. This summer, we have introduced a 6-week session of Creative Movement for 3-year-olds, a Ballet/Tap class for 4-year-olds, and several new Teen/Adult classes including Tap, Ballet, and Beginner Tap.

Focus on Community:
What makes our work truly special is the sense of community we have built. Our dancers, families, and staff form a supportive network that celebrates each other’s achievements and fosters a sense of belonging. We believe that dance is more than just movement; it’s a way to express oneself, build confidence, and create lasting friendships.

Final Thoughts:
I am incredibly proud of the growth and success of Maine Dance Center and Maine Dance Company. Our dedication to excellence, creativity, and community is at the heart of everything we do. We are excited to continue expanding our offerings, booking more performances, and providing a platform for dancers to shine.

Thank you for allowing me to share our story. I invite everyone to join us at Maine Dance Center, whether as a dancer, audience member, or supporter. Together, we can continue to celebrate the joy and artistry of dance.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Reflecting on my journey, there are three key qualities that have been most impactful:

An Extreme Work Ethic:
From a young age, I learned the importance of hard work and dedication. Dance requires a relentless commitment to practice and improvement. This work ethic has been crucial in building and sustaining both Maine Dance Center and Maine Dance Company. It has driven me to continuously strive for excellence and push through challenges.

A Genuine Love of Dance and High-Quality Dance Education:
My passion for dance and commitment to providing high-quality dance education have been at the core of everything I do. This love for the art form motivates me to stay current with new techniques, styles, and teaching methods, ensuring that our dancers receive the best possible training. This genuine enthusiasm for dance is something that I believe is infectious and helps to inspire my students and colleagues.

Support from My Network of Family and Friends:
I am incredibly fortunate to have a supportive network of family and friends who have been there for me every step of the way. Their encouragement, advice, and belief in my vision have been invaluable. This support system has provided me with the strength and motivation to overcome obstacles and celebrate successes.

What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

For those just starting their journey, here is my advice:

Cultivate a Strong Work Ethic:
Success in any field requires dedication and hard work. Set clear goals, stay disciplined, and be willing to put in the effort, even when things get tough. Consistency and perseverance are key to achieving your dreams.

Find Joy in What You Do:
Ensure that you are genuinely passionate about your work. When you love what you do, it shows in your efforts and results. This joy will radiate to those around you, attracting like-minded individuals and creating a positive, motivated environment. Passion fuels creativity and resilience, making your journey more fulfilling and successful.

Build and Lean on Your Support Network:
Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your vision. Seek out mentors, friends, and family who can provide support, advice, and encouragement. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it, and always be there for others in return. A strong support system can make a world of difference in your journey.

By focusing on these areas and truly feeling joy in your work, you will create a foundation for success and attract the right people to your organization. Remember, the journey is as important as the destination, and finding fulfillment along the way will lead to lasting achievements.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I try to stop and take a breath. It’s important to step back and assess the situation calmly. Here’s what I typically do:

Prioritize Tasks:
I take a moment to recognize what’s most important to get done now and what can wait. Breaking down tasks into smaller, manageable pieces helps me focus on immediate priorities and reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed by the bigger picture.

Acknowledge Overcommitting:
I have a tendency to bite off more than I can chew, which often leads to feeling overwhelmed. Recognizing this habit is crucial. It allows me to be more mindful of my limits and plan more realistically.

Take Breaks:
Taking short breaks can be incredibly refreshing. Even just a few minutes away from work to clear my mind and reset can make a big difference in my productivity and stress levels.

Seek Support:
I lean on my network of family, friends, and colleagues for support. Sometimes, just talking through my tasks or challenges with someone else can provide a new perspective and make everything seem more manageable.

Advice and Strategies:

Prioritize and Plan:
Make a list of tasks and prioritize them. Focus on the most critical tasks first and tackle them one at a time. Use tools like planners or digital apps to organize and keep track of your tasks.

Set Realistic Goals:
Be realistic about what you can accomplish in a given time frame. Setting achievable goals helps prevent feeling overwhelmed and provides a sense of accomplishment as you complete each task.

Practice Self-Care:
Don’t forget to take care of yourself. Ensure you get enough rest, eat well, and engage in activities that you enjoy. Self-care is essential for maintaining a healthy balance and staying productive.

Learn to Delegate:
If possible, delegate tasks to others. Trusting your team or seeking help when needed can lighten your load and allow you to focus on the tasks that require your direct attention.

Stay Flexible:
Understand that plans can change and be adaptable. Sometimes things won’t go as planned, and that’s okay. Being flexible allows you to adjust and respond to challenges without becoming overwhelmed.

By implementing these strategies, you can manage overwhelm more effectively and maintain a healthy balance in your professional and personal life. Remember, it’s important to acknowledge your limits and take steps to ensure you’re not overextending yourself.
