Meet Quentavius (Q) Ogletree

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Quentavius (Q) Ogletree . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Quentavius (Q) below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Quentavius (Q) with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I get my work ethic from my parents. They’re both hard workers & a hustlers nonetheless. Despite all the tribulations & adversity they went through me and my sister never once went without. They never let us see them giving up & growing up I was very / still am a quiet person. I observe way more than I speak & seeing that put a battery in my back to understand how I personally had to be in this world. They always tell me to be the best at whatever I do. I’m not afraid of hard work I’m motivated by it. They want me to be better than them. I’m more grateful for them than they are for me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I go by Q that’s what everyone calls me and I have a brand called “KA$H” which is an acronym for “Keep a $teady hu$tle” which was created on May 11th, 2016 by me and my pops. I wanted to quit my first job at Pizza Hut and he told me if I wanted to quit I’d have to find another source of income. (As he should) he always told me to keep a steady hustle just repeatedly. So I was bored in the house one day and went on custom ink and created a design in like 5 mins and showed him and we ran with it.

We got 10 shirts made and once we got a hold of them they sold. My homie Julius was my first customer. I’ll never forget about that, I appreciate him till this day. After those 10 shirts it quickly grew to 30-40 shirts a week for like 6-8 months straight which allowed me to buy all my own equipment and move at my own speed.

I’ve done a lot more than I could’ve ever imagined honestly in the past 8 years. I’ve shipped to 27 states, Paris, Mexico, a few other countries, Russ has bought my entire website twice, sold thousands of items and it’s just the beginning. I was determined to be doing this 10 years before I started because I know that’s how long it normally takes to build something special from the ground up. A real business. Brand. Make an impact.

What I’m focused on right now is just being more intentional about what I make. How I make it, & who I work with. Finding more relatable people to connect with and building a real team. That takes time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three most impactful qualities and skills were patience, love, & adjusting. Those 3 things will always show up when you’re doing something creatively. It will make you wanna rip your head off & it will make you fall in love with everything more. Out of those 3 I think adjusting is the biggest one because things aren’t going to go your way all the time. You’re either going to get mad and complain OR breathe and find a way. I do both from time to time, still. That’s the fun part though, they’re all going to define you. How bad do you want it?

My advice for people who are just starting is to go through all of this. That’s the only way you’re going to conquer these qualities and gain the skills. You cannot avoid these and if you try to they’re only going to hit you harder. Accept that you don’t have control all the time and that’s okay. Sometimes the universe will make a better outcome if you simply let go. Have faith. Don’t rush anything, if you plan on doing this forever it’s best to let things come to you instead of forcing. That only creates a friction that’s hard to get out of.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m always looking for people to collaborate with and partner with. I recently got a new homie who screenprints shoutout to my guy Thai, we have something fire coming. His girl connected us. Shoutout to her! He’s super dope and a good dude and does what I want to do but not doing yet. I’ve been trying to find the right people to elevate my brand with and do different things than what I’ve been doing the past 8 years. What I did before got me here but if I keep doing it, it’s going to keep me here. That’s real.

I want to find people who know how to cut and sew, people who know how to screen print, actually design pieces. All of it is so interesting. Homies that are videographers / photographers and shoutout to my bro Brad for that. I LOVE knowing people who do what I don’t do and we’re all really homies and it’s not transactional. They’re all down to teach me the ropes and skills that they have.

Whatever lane you are in if it’s relative. I’ll always have a spot open because as I mentioned before. You need a team. You cannot do this alone. Don’t have that attitude.
