Meet Shane Kulman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shane Kulman . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shane below.

Hi Shane , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Although I had always appeared confident, my inner life was dark and filled with self loathing. I use to gaze at the back of the village voice, an old NYC newspaper, at all the sexy ads. I applied for a waitressing job at a strip club, and soon after I began dancing there. It was the first time in my adult life I could see maybe I was pretty. I worked in that role for 11 years! Although I liked my outer beauty, I still felt small and unattractive.
I met my first life teachers at an improv acting class, “The Open Door Acting Company.” This was a special acting school that taught structured improv based on saying “no.” This changed and saved my life.
I learned how to feel, I learned what my emotions really felt like, looked like, and that I could use all the pain I had as energy on stage.
Each time I got on stage with the class as the audience or actual audience in the off broadway theatres I performed in, I would leave all the darkness on the stage like compost and I began to feel lighter, look better and live more embodied in all the new words that I was experiencing; compassion, community, joy, passion, longing, anger, peace and most of all I felt unconditional love.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

When people ask; “what is an Enchantress,” my reply is: I leave everything in a better place then when I found it. It can be a conversation, a session I’m giving, or even a restaurant bathroom. What I know is; I care. I care deeply about how people feel, and experience life. I am a mentor for sensitive multi passionate people. I guide people to learn to celebrate themselves so they can live feeling fulfilled, passionate and have their creative juices flowing as much as they want.
I hold a masters degree in behavior and special education, and what’s so special about that is, everything can be modified for each persons sensitivities. The pain that comes along with being a sensitive person in this world can keep a person alone, lacking purpose, overly busy and exhausted, drained and feeling lost.
I help people see and own their own greatness and do something with it! I support them to add creativity to their business or to use their creativity as a business!
I offer Celebrate Your Soul VIP days that are meaningfully fun, and productive, clients leave these days with action steps and clarity. Afterwards most people continue their work with me, and enjoy my retreats and weekend workshops.
I also have 3 published books, and offer performances in theatres in NY.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

It’s most important to trust yourself. include your inner child who LOVES a lot, and has many needs, and the bigest one is; PLAY! SO not to take yourself to seriously.

The best way to develop these skills is my proven method: The Unconventional Icon method! The first is re-learning how to listen to yourself, rambling is the best way to do it, rambling out loud with someone who is a trusted friend and can witness the rambling, getting use to streaming consciousness out loud will have you hear what actually excites you and what is a “to do” list item, it also reveals where “fear whiplash” happens, and a great idea, gets whipped away.
The next part is to include all the inner critic voices and get to be really curious with them, hear how the negative talk is actually helpful because it’s tryingt o protect you, so get the wisdom from the inner critic and take that part out of the driver seat.
Lastly its time to “strut the stage” take your idea, mission or upgraded version of yourself for a spin in public! It could be on social media or an actual stage or a conversation in a whole new way. It’s time to show up and bring the newest version of yourself into a spotlight of some kind. This is where you can collect information on what its like to be you!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

It’s best in that moment to be utterly ridiculous, whine out loud, have a full on tantrum, go for a skip or take a nap. Change what is going on for the moment, and be as authentic as you can, as a child would. Do not try to push on. Change the energy and the more you please your inner child, the more the overwhelm will feel lighter. Pleasing your inner child, takes awareness and tending to needs that are basic so the inner child can feel safe, welcome and warm to proceed.
