Meet Nicole Ash

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicole Ash. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Nicole, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Music was something that I was always drawn to. I used to picture myself on stage, singing and playing guitar and even started writing songs in a notebook at the age of 5 or 6. After finding the music that spoke most to me (emo, pop punk, alternative rock), I really started feeling connected to a community of people who felt like outcasts and music was a safe space of self-expression. Especially in dark and difficult times, music was always there. Picking up a guitar gave me an outlet, and music as a whole allowed me to feel a sense of freedom and belonging.

I knew my purpose wasn’t just to make music to satisfy my own dreams, but give back what music has given me. After building up a social media presence and opening doors for myself I thought were attainable, I knew I wanted to help other musicians do the same. Now I strive to inspire others to go after their dreams through my music, my coaching, and my own journey.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an alternative rock artist. I kick-started my music career in 2019 when I decided to create an Instagram account dedicated to guitar covers (@guitarbynicole). It has since evolved and helped me launch original music as well as a coaching program to help other musicians grow their online fanbases.

I regularly post alternative rock and nostalgic song covers, primarily on guitar. I use my social media platforms to document my music journey. Scrolling through my account, you can see the progress from someone just starting out on guitar, to now having incredible opportunities in music I never thought were possible.

Everyone says the music industry is tough to break into. And with that mindset, I always thought my dreams were out of reach. Even though I’m just scratching the surface right now, my journey is proof that you can achieve and surpass your dreams when you take action. My mission is to help musicians or aspiring musicians live out their dreams, and that’s why I continue to post my journey, share resources, and started a coaching program.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Undeniable determination. Intentional practice. Willingness to fail. There needs to be a fire inside you that won’t go out. A fire that makes you do the practice over and over and over… every day. Something that ignites so much passion and energy that it’s apparent to everyone else that THIS is what you’re meant to do. And you’re willing to fail, over and over, no matter how intimidating the next step in your growth is.

My number one piece of advice is start when you’re not ready. This is how you keep moving forward and opening up more opportunities for yourself. If I waited to have the best gear or become a better guitarist before posting music online, I would never be where I am now. Let yourself fail by just starting now, and enjoy the process.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Of course! I love meeting new people and learning from them. Feel free to reach out with a collaboration request if you’re an artist, brand, or creative. I can’t take on all collaborations, but you can contact me at [email protected].
