Meet ShayLa Smith

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ShayLa Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

ShayLa, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I developed my confidence and self esteem through trial and error. Believe it or not, I was extremely shy when I first started. I believe this came from me being around people that underestimated my ability to be what I am today and will be in the future. Once the clients, sales, & opportunities started growing that’s when I began to see myself for who I truly was.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is ShayLa. I am a 21 year old hairstylist in the Birmingham, AL area. I started my brand at the age of 16. In the beginning of my career, I was an extremely versatile hairstylist. Now, I am still a versatile hairstylist but in a specific field. I specialize in luxury hair extensions, such as wig installs, Quickweaves, sew ins, & natural hair. This has allowed me to service clients and do something that I absolutely love. Also, I’m able to sell my hair extensions to my clients to give them an even better experience. It’s the best of both worlds.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back three of my biggest qualities are that I never give up, I’m always willing to learn more, and I’m always open for change. I started my brand at the age of 16. Just like anyone else I have faced a numerous of challenges. Do I regret those challenges? Absolutely not! To anyone looking to start their business, do it! Even if you don’t have the support you think you need your assignment isn’t local it’s global!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am definitely looking for more beauty brands and influencers to collaborate with. To be more specific I’m looking for wig influencers, beauty influencers, & beauty brand owners. I feel like the beauty industry is being watered down by people because of the lack of knowledge, communication skills, & business development. We can bring a positive aspect back to the beauty industry.
