We recently connected with DD Haeg and have shared our conversation below.
DD, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
For me, I find that creativity is much like the cycle of a flower — there’s time when it flourishes and blossoms, and times when it dies, rests and rebirths.
Trusting in the cycle of creativity is important. For my projects, I notice that sometimes it moves quickly through the cycle–and other times it’s slow. When I self–published my book, BLOSSOM in the Beauty of Being, this creative process took over 1.5 years to complete, and there were times when ideas popped up and then died but took another form. For example, I first thought the book was going to be oracle cards, but soon after starting the project, creativity led me in the direction a book format. I love this so much because, like life, creativity is mysterious, unpredictable and flowing.
One thing that also helps my creativity flow is spaciousness. Being out in nature helps me feel spacious in my mind, body and soul. If I feel constricted, then things don’t flow.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Our modern world is complex; every day we’re bombarded with news and information that’s hard to fathom, understand or discern if it’s true. From wars across the globe and keeping up with technology to juggling work life and raising kids, our nervous systems are taxed. At times, our everyday human existence can often feel downright maddening, frustrating and even exhausting.
For decades I searched for answers trying to find ways to feel better—to avoid these uncomfortable feelings and suffering. I amassed a higher educational degree, yoga, meditation and massage therapy certifications, as well as a wide variety of other self-help tools and techniques. Yet I never really found “the answer.” But one day in 2021, in a little casita in Oaxaca Mexico, that all changed. Surrounded by a garden of flowers and supported by a shaman, my quest for answers ended during a sacred ceremony where I experienced what I can only describe as present-moment LOVE. It was a moment of truth that I fondly refer to this as my “remembrance day.”
Since then, I’ve thrown in the towel on seeking answers on how to fix myself. Now I Iean into these uncomfortable everyday situations to experience their sacred medicine. In my business, Rose Temple Living, I help people do the same: remember their true essence through sacred ceremonies, flower art, rituals, and embodiment practices. My friends call me an everyday mystic. I like to think of myself as a ceremonial guide and artist. Either way, I’m here to help people experience their own “remembrance day.”
I recently published my first book called BLOSSOM in the Beauty of Being which is a book for anyone—but especially flower lovers, overthinkers, doers, and striving types—who are ready to slow down, savor the present moment and come into a deeper relationship with life itself. It’s filled with over 150 images of flowers that hold a very sacred medicine to help us all reconnect to our inner wisdom, clarity, truth, and deep abiding love.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the beautiful aspects of life is that it’s always changing and mysterious but these three areas have been perhaps the most important for me:
GET CURIOUS: There’s a big difference between wanting to work on something because you want to change it (or you strongly dislike it) versus wanting to simply understand it. Many of us tend to want to change our experience or make it be something other than what it is. When we do this, we are missing out on the organic intelligence of our life. Wanting to change something, usually indicates we feel some sort of shame or judgment—but when we bring a spirit of curiosity to it, it’s as if we’re able to trust the wisdom of our own experience. Life isn’t so much about trying to transcend, outgrow, or attain some perfect form of equanimity, as it is about becoming as fully present to the realities of our human experience.
ALLOW THE UNFOLDING: All things are always unfolding, in their own beauty, time, and pace. Look at the innate intelligence of Mother Nature and her beautiful creations, for example. When we trust the unfolding of life, we are in essence abiding—that is, relaxing into and allowing, not controlling or holding onto–trusting that we don’t have to figure everything out. Abiding is a sacred yes—a humble, yet juicy, acknowledgment of the impermanence of life and its eternal unfolding. It celebrates the unfurling and uncontrollable nature of flow and the delicious current of aliveness that resides underneath it. There’s a deep alchemical process in trusting life to unfold.
GIVE SPACE FOR LOVE: Love wants to know us. Meaning that love needs space….a place to dwell in, to flow into and out of, to allow itself to animate life through. When many of us think of the idea of love, it’s the romantic type, or we tie it to the conditions or people around us. While this can be an aspect of love, there is an when we remember that LOVE dwells in the temple of our heart. Slowing down, being with this presence, and letting love get to know us, can feel so deeply satisfying. And in this tender, raw, and real state we can actually FEEL how love is (and always will be) holding us.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
I love, love, love helping women who are done with overthinking, hustling, or constantly seeking/searching and are ready to flow, create, and love their life even more deeply. Many women that I work with are transitioning into a new chapter of life or a new way of being. They are often ready to stop doing it all alone and ready to step into the support of a community or circle. Our work together is about helping them remember their wisdom, truth and love.
Although I certainly help women come into a deeper relationship with themselves and their life, I do not see myself as a life coach. In fact, the way that I work is quite different than most online coaches. I always invite people to check out my list of agreements on my website to see if we might be a good fit to work together.
