We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Camesha Gosha a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Camesha, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
I am a self-described optimist. I tend to always look for the bright side of a situation. Knowing that it could always be worse has been my motto for a while. It’s a reminder to be grateful in the moments when you don’t see anything to be grateful for. There’s always something, I promise. I also tend to be optimistic when it comes to business. It can be intimidating to start a new venture. I often remind myself that others have done it, so it’s doable. I just have to do it in a way that makes sense for me.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve spent most of my career in television as a writer and producer. After taking time away to raise my children, I’ve never strayed far from my media roots. I started a media company that publishes a weekly newsletter centered on self-care for women. It’s something I’m passionate about. As a mom, one thing I know is many of us feel guilty for making ourselves a priority. I had to decide that it was a sacred practice and necessary for my sanity. I encourage other women to make that step or be consistent with it through my newsletter. Soon, I’ll be launching courses that center around that theme. I’ve been working hard on it and I’m excited about what’s to come.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I think the three qualities that have been most impactful for me are always being willing to learn and admit what I don’t know. The only way we grow is to keep learning. Another quality is not being afraid to pivot. That’s a big part of business. The way we start may not be the way we finish. Being willing to change direction is vital. Another quality that’s served me well is keeping my priorities in focus. There are so many things that can distract you as a business owner. We feel like we have to be everywhere all the time and hopping on each new trend. Knowing that I can only do what I can do and letting that be enough, works for me.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed I typically try to focus on whatever the main priorities are. I also walk away when I need to and try to come back to things with fresh eyes. That can make a world of difference. Things look different and there’s more clarity when you’ve taken a step back.
