We were lucky to catch up with Samantha Gallacher recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Samantha with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I have always been a hard worker and always wanted to work for myself.
After spending years as part of a larger team in finance, advertising and then design I learned that really anything is possible as long as you keep moving.
My parents instilled in me that of someone else can do it, why can’t you?
That just helps you think if I keep moving and keep creating I won’t second guess myself and and it will all work out.
The moment you sit back and wait for something to happen is when your work ethic has vanished.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Samantha Gallacher the founder and creator of Art+Loom, a bespoke Rug Company. I started my company in 2013 out a need for interesting rugs for one of my Interior Projects.
Originally from New York, I hold a degree in Interior Design from NYSID. I was a rug and textile designer for William Sonoma company, West Elm for a few years before moving to Miami. Once in Miami I started picking up interior design jobs and figured I would create my own rug creations to make my projects more unique. Slowly it became apparent that the rug designing was really where my head and my passion were aligned. From this point, Art + Loom was created.
I spent many years working to build the right relationships with oversees mills and factories, sourced new materials and pushed the envelop on what was possible in rug design. I started building my team of incredible sales, marketing and design candidates and here were are.
Art + Loom is about creation inspired by art, travel and nature. We have recently launched our own wallpaper collection, mirror collection, and soon to be lighting line. We have exhibited in Milan, Miami, and Paris and are looking forward to continuing to show our pieces to a global audience.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Relationships are key, I have met so many interesting and inspiring people along my journey that have mentored or collaborated with me, it has really helped push the needle on my exposure to a larger audience.
Don’t sweat the small stuff, there is a solution to every issue so instead of feeling defeated come up with a work around in order to keep growing.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents were pretty adamant that I go to school for a business degree, although I was always interested in fine art they thought I needed that to accomplish anything.
They could not have been more spot on, have a business and marketing background has significantly helped me in creating the business side of my fine art.
