Meet Marisa Valdez

We recently connected with Marisa Valdez and have shared our conversation below.

Marisa, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

I’m pretty optimistic, and I think much of that comes from my upbringing. I was raised by a single mom who had to deal with a lot of challenging situations. Being the older sister, I had to learn to be tough and resilient early on. Those hard times made me believe that things will always work out. Even though my parents got divorced, I had good support from my aunts and uncles, who always encouraged me to stay positive and be of service to others. Seeing them handle challenges so well has rubbed off on me and influenced my desire to help and support others, which naturally leads to me having a positive outlook on life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

For me, the three qualities that had the most impact on my journey were continuous learning, adaptability, and problem-solving early on. Continuous learning and staying curious, constantly seeking new knowledge, and keeping up with the latest trends in my industry helped me stay relevant and effective.

The ability to adapt to new information and technologies is essential. Accept change and view challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Experiment with the latest tools and techniques to stay flexible, and develop a growth mindset where you focus on learning and improvement rather than fearing failure.

You must have the ability to analyze problems. Collaborate with others to gain different perspectives and approaches to problem-solving. Reflect on past issues and solutions to understand what worked well and what could be improved.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I am feeling overwhelmed, I make a to-do list and write down everything I need to do. Then, I prioritize tasks by importance and deadline. If my mind is feeling cluttered, I also take a break and go for a walk or to the gym. I try to set realistic goals and focus on progress each and every day to the best of my ability, and I make it a habit to celebrate small wins along the way.
