We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Lewis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Since I can remember, all of my parents (Mom, Dad, Step-Dad, and Step-Mother) demonstrated a hard work ethic and entrepreneurship from their core. They all owned their own businesses from a photography studio, fine jewelry store, to a tour guide company. They each had to carve out the discipline, determination, and steadfastness to continue when times were tough. All of the above marked me deeply and in a way that I’m still seeing it all unfold.
On my own, I applied for my first job at 15 years old at Applebee’s as a hostess. I love the feeling of working hard and getting that paycheck in my hand. I LOVE that feeling of “hard work paying off”. I also loved as a teenager being on my feet, working, serving, and interacting with people. Then when I moved out on my own at 18 years old, I can remember again feeling this drive to work hard and dream big. I did just that and was able to work many jobs that were a dream come true.
When times got tough, I remember just knowing intuitively that giving up was not an option. Hard times made me dig in even deeper and find even more drive to be and do better. I credit so much of all of the above to all of my parent’s influence on me, without them even knowing it.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Ashley Lewis.
Born in South Florida and raised in Massachusetts, I began experimenting with many different diets and fitness routines starting at an early age of twelve. Throughout the majority of my teens and twenties, I was overly self-conscious and concerned about my weight and image. In my mind, I perceived myself as “fat” and “not quite perfect enough” although on the scale I was never technically overweight and was very active.
My heart and passion for all things health was passed on from three women. My Mom raised me to be health conscious and always incorporated being healthy and active as a normal part of our family life. Being raised in the 90’s where fat-free, sugar-free, and low-fat diets were a growing fad, she didn’t know any better and filled our home with those products. Although my Mom was very non-invasive about health, being health and weight conscious became an obsession for me from a very early age. So did the start of an eating, image, and identity disorder that continued until my early twenties.
Originally from Spain, my Step-Mom, helped me to see that things like olive oil, dark chocolate, coffee, and good tasting things (even unhealthy foods) in “moderation” were all good for your health and overall well-being. Also, the importance of honoring culture in the context of family. She introduced me to many delicious European/Mediterranean-inspired dishes as well as a heart for European culture and travel.
At age eighteen, I went on my first mission-focused trip to an international country, with a woman who became one of my mentors. From then on, I have continued to travel internationally and learn more about different cultures, their patterns of food, family, and traditions. It was during that time I realized that my greatest struggle with food, body image, and fitness had also become my greatest passion and purpose in life.
My heart is to help women find health, happiness, and wholeness from the inside out … body, mind, spirit and soul. I do so practically through one on one and group coaching, educating through health workshops, online avenues, courses, and speaking engagements. My training includes a Bachelor degree from Florida Atlantic University in Intercultural Communications with a minor in Women’s Studies. I am a certified Health Educator with Hallelujah Acres and have a degree in Christian ministry. In addition, I have completed hundreds of hours of counseling and am a licensed Holistic Health Coach with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I have completed additional training in Women’s Health, Nutrition and Hormones.
In addition, I have been a facilitator of leadership equipping, inside out coaching and training with millennials for the past fifteen years, in one on one settings and week long leadership summits. I’ve been happily married to my South African husband, Grant for fifteen years and together we have three girls (Summer, Addie and Lucca) we homeschool. As a family, we enjoy outdoor adventures, cooking and creating new recipes, traveling, being local “foodies” and tourists wherever they reside. We lived in South Florida for the past twenty years and moved to Maui, Hawaii in 2022.
What I do:
I had three c-sections in five years. I tried for natural births each time.
I came to find out later stored trauma and unprocessed heart pain were reasons why my body couldn’t relax and dilate during labor. However, I’m proud of the birth stories, for each of my three girls, I carry in my heart today. I’ve also seen how all the things Motherhood has brought up in my heart directly affects my mothering on a daily basis. I have found as I’ve done the inside work, healing trauma, mindsets and past hurts. I’m a more patient, present and loving Mother. I never thought I’d be doing what I am today. I’m a homeschool, sourdough making, working from home, Mom on Maui, but here we are. I’m grateful to say, I’m loving this season more than I have words for it.
I have found from my own personal journey and in over ten years in the heart, health, and hormone coaching world, all three work together and if one is out of balance, so the others will be as well. I’m here to help YOU find that balance in your 3H (heart, health and hormones) world.
What I’m Up To:
This fall I’m launching my first membership model which is one of my most heartfelt projects to date. It’s all inclusive of all of the products I know will deeply impact every attendee and will meet them right where they’re at (in the comfort of their own home!). More info can be found on my website : www.AshleyLewisCoaching.com
Also, I just finished negotiating my first book deal with a dream company that will be here by the holidays! The book summarizes and leads the reader down the journey I hope to take every woman on I work with. It takes them on a journey of the heart that ushers them to deeper healing, wholeness, and the most present version of themself.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Perseverance
2. Self Control/Discipline
3. Focus
In our current world where social media is what we are looking at most, it’s sooo important and is something I’ve learned on my journey, to really take time to dig deep, get clarity from God, and determine what you want to accomplish with your life. Then, do everything you can to not give up NO MATTER WHAT (bc the tough times WILL come!). Also, to allow everything in your life to work FOR you, and to stay focused on your own uniqueness and calling. Comparison will steal your joy, dim your light, and steer you off of the path that’s meant only for YOU.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love partnering with other like minded women and brands in the health, wellness, natural beauty, kids products, or self help world. Being an enneagram 9w1, unity is my jam and so is helping others shine. When one shines, we all shine.
