Meet Cecilia Bettencourt

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cecilia Bettencourt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Cecilia , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I think finding one’s purpose is a journey in of itself. I know there are people who search their entire lives trying to find their purpose, and I feel very fortunate to have been guided to mine at a young age.

I myself am a Chiropractor, and during my first job as a Chiropractic Assistant at around 16 years old, my boss/mentor assigned the team a little personal homework. We had to write down our own personal mission and vision statement by our next meeting and I remember REALLY struggling to find the words of what I thought my contribution to this world could be. I was hyper aware of the fact that I myself was a kid! Surely there were things about the world I didn’t know yet, but I couldn’t show up to my job empty handed so I got very broad and gave myself permission to change it later.

After some time it just clicked. My mission was to positively impact a community for generations. I didn’t know “how”, but I had a unshakable certainty and that was good enough for me.

For me, my mission and my purpose are synonymous. Eventually that same boss/mentor asked us to identify our core values and somewhere along the line I heard that finding a career that both aligned with your purpose and values was the key to happiness, so here I am. Trying to fulfill my purpose through empowering those to take control of their health through natural and holistic means to help change the health and wellbeing of families. That’s how I believe we can impact a community.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hi! I’m Dr. Cece, a Pediatric and Family Chiropractor in Southern California that focuses on the regulation and resiliency of the nervous system. I am the owner and founder of Simply Well Chiropractic in Seal Beach, Ca and our practice is truly unlike any other office you may have been to in the past.

At a very young age I was in awe of the human body and how something so complex just worked with no outside help. It fascinated me and ever since I have been trying to answer “why”. Over the years I realized so many “common” struggles we typically experience can be attributed to an over stress or dysregulated nervous system, and with a little help a lot of the “common” struggles can be almost non existent. In our practice this is exactly what we get to witness everyday, and being apart of so many miracles is the most rewarding part!

I absolutely love getting to be apart of all our practice member’s life events, whether that is welcoming a baby, weddings, bridal showers, first day of school, first steps or first words…I am forever grateful for the opportunity being a family practice brings. I deeply care about people and being able to support them through all the phases of life is something I don’t take for granted.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Overall I’d say my curiosity is one of my greatest strengths. It has really driven me to expand my knowledge when it comes to the techniques and care management I utilize in practice. One of the blessing and burdens of chiropractic is that there are so many techniques because no two people are the same. Some people respond better to certain techniques than others and knowing all I could has really helped me develop my toolbox. Additionally being certified to care for kids is a huge advantage since it’s something that is not taught too heavily in schools.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

One challenge we are met with often is right sized expectations. Yes, Chiropractic can facilitate miracles in your health but often it takes more than one adjustment to really make a lasting change. The nervous system is the most dynamic, adaptable organs in the body, and keeping up with environmental stressors takes time and repetition. This is the very reason we utilize care plans because true change requires consistency.
