Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Morgan Dyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Morgan , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
From my Dad. I think it’s pretty uncommon nowadays to be generous, and that’s too bad. It’s very important. I think it’s so important to remember we’re playing a team sport by living on this planet. You can be generous with things other than money. Time, energy, empathy, etc. I think it’s important to balance skepticism with generosity. Nobody gets anywhere alone, it’s important to pay it forward.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a Junior Art Director at a managed markets access agency. I’m really passionate about the intersection of health, wellness and communications. I think there’s a huge potential in this niche to bring positive change to people’s lives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’m still looking forward in terms of my career. I’m very early on, and I’ve got a long way to go.
I finished college last May at the School of Visual Arts. It was really hard, it took me 9 years from the time I graduated highschool, off and on working, going to community college for a while, and eventually getting a scholarship and transferring in. My advice to folks just graduating from highschool would be to appeal the first offer of financial aid they give you. They can probably give you more. You won’t get it if you don’t ask.
If you don’t know what you want to do, try to go for something low risk and high income that you can fall back on. You could go for a trade certificate or program. Don’t go to private school or use your federal funding until you are sure. You don’t have to ever figure it out.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’d love to connect with more creative copywriters that I could work with in the future. I want to meet that are passionate about the written word the same way that I’m passionate about visual communication.
Bonus points of you’re into Gothic literature or magical surrealism. If you’re a nerd this you can find me @morgan_graphic_arts
