We recently connected with Wendie Taylor, MBA, RDN and have shared our conversation below.
Wendie, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
As a former fat loss dietitian who underwent a significant transformation in my approach to nutrition and wellness, finding my purpose was a pivotal moment in my life. It all started when I reached the age of 40 and had a profound realization – I didn’t want to spend the rest of my days fixating on food and missing out on the joys of life. This epiphany sparked a shift in my philosophy, leading me to transition from prescribing strict plans to focusing on overall health and promoting a positive relationship with food for women in perimenopause.
My path as a dietitian has evolved into one that prioritizes adding variety, never restricting nutrients, and embracing intuitive eating as the cornerstone of my teachings. I am passionate about helping women heal their relationship with food and their bodies, guiding them towards a more holistic and sustainable approach to wellness. My journey from a place of restriction to one of empowerment has not only transformed my own life but also allowed me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I work with. Embracing this new perspective has brought me immense joy and fulfillment, and I am honored to walk alongside women on their journey to feeling good in their bodies.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am thrilled to share what makes my brand truly special and exciting for the incredible women I have the privilege of working with. At the core of my practice is a deep understanding of the challenges faced by chronic dieters, whose internal cues have been disrupted, leading to confusion and uncertainty around how to nourish themselves. What sets my brand apart is the dedicated focus on guiding these women towards re-establishing a healthy relationship with food and empowering them to listen to their bodies once again.
One of the most exciting aspects of my work is helping women in menopause navigate their wellness journey through a holistic approach that centers around using food as a powerful tool for support and healing. Many of the women I work with are at a critical juncture where they’re starting to experience health issues like elevated blood sugars and high cholesterol. By providing personalized guidance and education, I empower them to make informed choices that not only address these health concerns but also nurture their overall well-being during this transformative stage of life. What truly sets my brand apart is the emphasis on not just addressing symptoms but fostering a deep sense of empowerment and self-care that transcends mere dietary choices. Together, we embark on a journey of rediscovery and revitalization, paving the way for sustainable health and vitality.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey as a registered dietitian working with women in perimenopause, there are three key qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that have had a profound impact on my approach and the success of my clients. Firstly, my understanding and application of intuitive eating have emerged as a transformative guide in helping women rebuild a positive relationship with food. By emphasizing the principles of intuitive eating, I empower my clients to tune into their body’s cues, make peace with food, and cultivate a mindful approach to eating that honors their unique needs and preferences.
Secondly, my ability to cultivate a compassionate and non-judgmental space for my clients has been instrumental in fostering trust and openness in our journey together. Building a supportive and empathetic relationship allows women to feel heard, validated, and encouraged as they navigate their challenges and successes on the path to feeling themselves again in perimenopause. This quality of genuine connection enables us to work collaboratively towards sustainable lifestyle changes that prioritize self-care and self-compassion.
Lastly, my continuous pursuit of learning and staying updated on the latest research and developments in nutrition, women’s health, and hormones plays a vital role in enriching my knowledge base and enhancing the quality of care I provide. By staying informed and adaptable, I can offer evidence-based guidance that is tailored to the unique needs and goals of each individual client. This commitment to ongoing education and professional growth ensures that I can offer the most relevant and effective support to women seeking to navigate perimenopause with confidence and vitality.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
When reflecting on the book that has been a game-changer in my journey as a registered dietitian helping women in perimenopause, one title stands out above the rest: “Intuitive Eating.” This groundbreaking book, which delves into the 10 fundamental principles of intuitive eating, has been a catalyst for profound transformation in both my approach to nutrition and the way I guide women back to a place of self-awareness and empowerment.
“Intuitive Eating” has been instrumental in reshaping my philosophy and practice, serving as a guiding light in helping women reestablish a harmonious relationship with food and their bodies. By immersing myself in the wisdom of its principles and understanding how they can lead individuals back to themselves, I have been able to adopt a more holistic and compassionate approach to supporting women through perimenopause. The tenets of intuitive eating have not only informed my professional journey but have also had a deeply personal impact, inspiring me to embrace a lifestyle focused on mindful nourishment and self-compassion. This book has truly been a cornerstone in my development, guiding me towards a path of authenticity, connection, and transformation in both my practice and my own relationship with food and well-being.
