We were lucky to catch up with Lychelle Ragland recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lychelle , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I can’t say I’ve overcome imposter syndrome, but I refuse to let it overtake me. Every day, I must consciously decide not to allow the thoughts of not feeling as if I am doing enough, a fraud, or not being the person I say I am to overtake me. What I will say is that one of the things that helped me not be overtaken by imposter syndrome is therapy. Therapy allowed me to get to the root of why I felt as if I was never doing enough and had to overcompensate. I truly encourage anyone who battles or even may think that they struggle with imposter syndrome to seek therapy so that they, too, can get to a point where they will not fall victim to it. Another great tool was learning how to view myself as God views me—realizing that He loves me simply because I am enough and not because of any work I could do.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Some may call me the preacher’s daughter, the worship leader, public speaker, Minister, Soror Ragland, the TikTok teacher, or even Charles’ wife. But who am I? I’m a young woman from Virginia who finally realized who she was. I’m a voice for this next generation who enjoys leading the next generation to destiny and purpose. Previously, as a teacher and counselor in the public school system, I used my position to help all the youth I encountered recognize their worth and help them dream again. To some, I may be a weirdo; to others, I may be a role model. I’m okay with being seen as either, but at my core, I’m just a willing vessel being used by God to share the love of God and preach his word. This year, I decided to take a leap and release my first book, “Unveiling HerStory: The Testimonies, The Lessons, The Journal.”This book is a war cry for every woman who has ever dared to dream, stumbled along the journey, and questioned her worth. This book is evidence of what connecting with the holy spirit can do, how it can urge us to rise above adversity and allow us to claim our rightful place as airs and, most importantly, daughters to the Kingdom of God (Psalm 45:13). This book can be ordered on my website at www.LychelleRagland.com
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the things that helped me on my journey was having my relationship with God. Having my relationship allowed me to know him for myself and not just what someone else told me. It gave me faith in areas I never knew I needed more faith in. It allowed me to lean not to my understanding but to lean and trust in him, knowing that he has always and will always come through for me! I advise others to get to know the Lord in their way and not through others’ lenses. Also, find a ministry that you can be rooted and covered in. Having that form of community backing you makes one feel unstoppable.
Another important quality that has impacted my journey is my resilience. No matter how hard, tired, or rough things may seem, I know in my mind and heart that I refuse to give up. This mindset kept me going and gave me the pick-me-up I needed to get back on track. I encourage others to find their “Why.” Find what motivates them to pursue their journey and hold on to that reason to keep them going.
Lastly, finding my passion/purpose was also impactful in my journey and helped me have an impact. It’s usually hard to pursue things when one doesn’t have a true passion for them. When you operate in your passion/purpose, it is truly easier than working any job or completing any task. Why? because you will actually enjoy it.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for others to collaborate with who want to make an impact on the next generation all across the nation. Connecting with others who share the same passion allows for a greater accomplishment than what one can do all alone. If you are interested in connecting with me, you can email me at [email protected].
I look forward to hearing from you!
